French filmmaker Patrick Jean and Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison productions are teaming to develop a film version of Jean's acclaimed film short "Pixels" for Sony Pictures reports Heat Vision.
The original short, which can be watched below, features 1980s video game characters like Donkey Kong, Tetris, Space Invaders, Frogger and Pac-Man attacking New York City and turning everything they hit into pixels - with ultimately the entire planet going blocky.
No writer is on board as yet, but the tone is expected to be an action/comedy along "Ghostbusters" lines.

That is just win!

Good lord. The video is amazing, and great on its own. What more needs to be added? Way to use your imagination Hollywood.

The last thing ANYTHING needs is Adam Sandler.

November 11, 2010

Heat Vision reports that longtime Adam Sandler collaborator Tim Herlihy will write the script for Pixels, the big screen adaptation of French filmmaker Patrick Jean's web short that you can watch below. Sandler's Happy Madison will produce for Columbia Pictures. Jean will direct the film.

"Pixels" became a hit in April with its 1980s video game characters attacking New York City. The trade says the plan "is to make a 'Ghostbusters'-style action comedy in which characters come out of a video game to wreak havoc in the real world."

November 23, 2011

Sony Pictures has set a May 17, 2013 release date for Pixels, Patrick Jean's adaptation of his own web short that you can watch below.

"Pixels" became a viral hit with its 1980s video game characters attacking New York City. It was previously said that the plan was to make a 'Ghostbusters'-style action comedy in which characters come out of a video game to wreak havoc in the real world.

Adam Sandler's production company Happy Madison is behind the big screen adaptation.

The May 17, 2013 date was previously held by Roland Emmerich's Singularity, but it has being going through a rewrite and has now been scheduled for November 1, 2013.

Both films have their respective dates to themselves for now.

The 80s? Sandler producing?

This has no chance.

Bumps this thread since another one was made

Sorry about the other thread, lol. I should use "Search this Forum" more often..

Anyways, yeah, it's a really great idea, but when I read Happy Madison was involved, it put a damper on things.

Pixels
Tim Dowling ("Just Go With It") has come onboard to re-write the script for "Pixels" at Sony Pictures and Happy Madison. Tim Herlihy penned the previous draft which is now being turned into more of a tentpole-esque action comedy along "Ghostbusters" lines.

They want the guy responsible for writing some of our favorite kids adventure films growing up. Plus Harry Potter.

Love the **** outta that choice.

It would be a must watch if they actually set the thing in the 80s.

This movie had so much potential, but with Adam Sandler and Kevin James as the leads, nevermind.

Peter Dinklage Joins Adam Sandler for Pixels

March 28, 2014

"Game of Thrones" and X-Men: Days of Future Past star Peter Dinklage has, according to TheWrap, joined the cast of Pixels opposite Adam Sandler, Josh Gad and Kevin James. Chris Columbus (first two "Harry Potter" films, Home Alone) is directing.

Patrick Jean's videogame-inspired short film, which you can check out in the player below, became a viral hit with its 1980s video game characters attacking New York City. It was previously said that the plan was to make a Ghostbusters-style action comedy in which characters come out of a video game to wreak havoc in the real world.

Sandler's production company Happy Madison is behind the big screen adaptation with Tim Herlihy and Tim Dowling providing the screenplay.

Love the short; wonderfully geeky, imaginative and strangely poignant. Quite skeptical towards the feature film project though.

This sounds awesome. Can't wait to see it!

ARE YOU SURE, HYDE? With Modern-Day Sandler and Kevin James, produced by modern-day Happy Madison?

I love the concept..but at this point, it won't reach its full potential unless the director has enough freedom.

Ehh... They're the weak links, but then there's Dinklage and Monaghan, who are awesome. If the movie sucks then I'll see it for the sheer awesomeness Dinklage brings anyway

And Chris Columbus doesn't instill me with much confidence either. The guy is basically Spielberg-lite. Half the price, half the talent.
