The book Playing for Pizza is being adapted as a movie:

Phoenix Pictures has picked up the movie rights to John Grisham's best-selling novel "Playing for Pizza," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The company's Mike Medavoy, Arnie Messer and David Thwaites will produce.

The story centers on a washed-up NFL quarterback who finds a new perspective on life and a love for all things Italian when his agent lands him a deal to play with a semi-professional team in Parma, Italy.

A search for a screenwriter for the project is under way.

I really liked the book, so I am looking forward to this.

The book was great, and would make a great film. I wonder who will end up taking the lead?

Adam Shankman to Direct Pizza

Adam Shankman is set to direct Playing for Pizza, an adaptation of the John Grisham best-seller that will be scripted by J. Mills Goodloe. Phoenix Pictures optioned the book in May.

Variety says the film will be a co-production of Phoenix and Shankman's Offspring Entertainment. Mike Medavoy, Arnie Messer and David Thwaites will produce, while Shankman and Offspring partner Jennifer Gibgot will be executive producers.

"Pizza" revolves around a veteran NFL quarterback who winds up on a semi-pro team in Italy after blowing his last chance to lead a team to the Super Bowl.

Shankman hopes to make Playing for Pizza his next directorial outing, eyeing a spring production start in Italy.

Good to hear its still moving.
