Playstation Brand faces Uncertain Future (Gamasutra article)

Yeah...I know. I actually think there might be some booing from the audience no matter what.

Sony has a real cluster**** of a situation on they're hands.

I would imagine that they're planning on having PSN up and running, in some capacity, before then. It'll really be better for them to have that off they're backs. But, I don't think there's anyway they can dodge talking about what's happened. It'll just be too weird if they don't even mention it at all.

I can see Trenton spouting off with a lame joke about the outage that everyone boo's him for...

Sony would be smart to get it over with right away, like.. have it be the VERY first thing they talk about. Then bring out Kevin Butler and have him host the rest of their show.

i agree,
plus with respect to Sony... NASA got hacked too by some young idiot trying to see if UFOs exist!!...if NASA can be hacked then so can Sony.
Anyone can be hacked, unfortunaly, but that is not the point.
The thing, Sony needed to have every measure available, and the news coming out that is that key parts of the PSN didn´t even had firewalls.
If that´s true, they are fu**ed, everyone will sue them, and win.
If that´s true, Sony´s mistake is amateurish.

Now, the worst thing that can happen in all of this is the PS brand falling into oblivian, and that is not good to anyone, not them nor the industry.

I hope that Sony turns it around and the hackers pay, but at this point, it doesn´t look good for Sony :csad:

Absolutely.

But that's IF the issue has been dealt with by then. Which I hope it will be. I can't imagine this going on for another month. Anyway, yes, if they've fixed the problem, there's no way they'll want to dredge it back up. Sure, some people will pissed if Sony doesn't mention it, but they're certainly in the minority. And I bet those same people are the types that I mentioned in the "Error Code" thread that simply can't be satisfied. Nothing Sony could do would ever be enough for them.

If they haven't fixed it by then? I think Sony has much bigger problems to worry about than a press conference.

oooh..didnt get this in my day...my c64 was great ;)

I dunno, I think the majority of people will be pissed if it's not addressed in some form. Either by telling us about the changes made, or calming people down that they CAN protect our information in the future. They'll probably even try and get some good will by telling us what exactly they'll give PS3 owners to win them back (ie: free month of PS Plus, which I'm hearing will be useless on it's own).

I'm not saying they'll talk about the hack, or how it happened. But if they don't even make a case for why consumers should trust them again...then Sony has some crazy confidence.

. But if they don't even make a case for why consumers should trust them again...then Sony has some crazy confidence.

Need I remind you about Ken Kutaragi famous statement of "You will work two jobs to purchase a PlayStation 3" ?

Sony never lacks confidence, even if it makes them look stupid, lol.

Yeah, but Sony's made an effort to try and change that pereception. And it's worked. Now would be a strange time for them to go back to that approach.

Then again, the E3 coverage should be interesting, once the interviews roll around and the critiques at the end of show. Each company always gets critcized for something. I can't see Sony not taking that opportunity to win back some consumers. They'll have the attention of alot of people, and it is an opportunity to "fix" somethings publicly.

I wouldn't be surprised if Butler never returns after whoever runs the Butler tweeter account tweaked that code online.

That PSN kid Marcus also disappeared.

I wouldn't doubt if E3 is the debut of a new Sony marketing campaign strategy to coincide with the new network.

Well...Butler is staying. Butler is too awesome to go.

Last I saw of Marcus, he was looking up to a guy who was putting in an obscene amount of hours into Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. And making fun of iPhone owners, too.

You're probably right. There will probably be a new kick off of a new marketing campaign. But, I'm sure that Kevin Butler will be a part of it, too.
