There are children in Haiti right at this moment, that are ALREADY OFFICIALLY AND LEGALLY adopted by American families, but because of the bureaucratic red tape, they cannot get them out immediately.

There is an airplane in the Dominican Republic, fueled and ready for these children.

The Dutch government has already stated that they are cutting their red tape and allowing families in the Netherlands to immediately adopt children from the orphanages in Haiti.

I have provided the numbers of your Senators and the State Department.

PLEASE take a few minutes to find your senator, and call. Calls DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE, I GUARANTEE IT. Please call, and then call the state department and let them know that these children need to get to their families....NOW.

Thanks

Kel :yay:

Please call...

Also, do not merge this with the Haiti thread, I do not want it to get lost in the discussion.

UPDATE: The plane that is in the Dominican Republic is from a Texas Adoption Agency, and they are simply waiting.

These children are at different stages...

1. They have both the Haitian paperwork, and American paperwork...they will of course be the first out...
2. These are the unfortunate ones...they have their American paperwork, but unfortunately had not received their Haitian paperwork and that paperwork is now destroyed.
3. Those children that were just beginning the process...
4. Newly orphaned because of the quake...

The State Department is on the ground now, and they are working as quickly as they can. I know though, that they can cut a lot of this redtape...and they say that is exactly what they are doing.

Hopefully what the Dutch government is doing will work, and our government will follow the same criteria they are using.

Canada has senators. They are in the uppers house, called "the Senate". The lower house, is the "House of Commons". They are the unelected body.

Canada has sent down military personnel and are matching donations to Canadian charities dollar for dollar. If you want to contribute you can through the Canadian Red Cross, CARE Canada, Oxfam Canada and Quebec, Save the Children, or Medecins Sans Frontiers.

I don't know what they are doing about adoption.

LOL, the Senate has little to no power in decision making. I don't think they've blocked the passing of a bill for like 50 years. Better to contact your MP.

Also, you mean the Senate is the unelected body, correct?

Yes, that is what I meant. HoC come up with the legislation and vote on it. Senate more or less is a non democratic "check" on them. At one point, this was the case as well with Senators in the United States (not elected). Hence them being unelected.

As nice of an idea as this is, I think America has enough financial problems as well as people right now. Sorry if that sounds cold hearted but I just don't think it's the best idea right now.

I agree with Figs. We really need to start taking care of America, before we end up like Haiti.

This is about individuals living in the United States adopting children from Hati. Not about our economy.

You do understand that these are private adoptions, not anything that our government needs to deal with, except to sign off on what has already been officially decreed as a legal adoption? You do understand that right? Or not?

The State Department has to provide adoption visa's for each of these children who have ALREADY been adopted...

I'm not saying the American government needs to adopt these children, I am saying that these children ARE ADOPTED, and just waiting for this paperwork to be done. Others that were waiting on the sign off from the Haiti government, who are also adopted already, no longer have paperwork, because its under the building. There are also families READY NOW to adopt newly orphaned children...all I'm saying is, the red tape needs to be cut so that we can get these children out NOW.

When the United States is unable to help a country in time of need and say no..., is the time to say...we are already like Haiti.

Thank you NH, that certainly does my heart well.....that is FANTASTIC to read...

Glad you enjoyed it. According to the paper today they are expediating adoptions at Children's here in Pittsburgh to ensure they find good homes. www.post-gazette.com if you want to follow more of it.
