Not true at all. I didn't like the movie for years until maybe a year ago when I finally gave it a chance and watched it the whole way through, and I didn't mind it at all. It's much better than its reputation suggests. But that's my opinion.
I rewatched it yesterday. I just think of it as an homage to the 60s series. It's hilariously bad an cheesy. But I love Ivy. As over the top as she was. O'Donnell is great as Robin.
I watched it a year or so ago thinking that I could finally appreciate it for what it was, now that I've got my ideal Batman trilogy.
But, those feelings only last until Batman unfreezes Robin toward the beginning, and even then it's shaky. Not because "It direspecz Batman!!" Just because it's bad.
Not my third favorite Batman movie, but I love it anyway. Not because it's "so bad, it's good", but because it's good!t: a fun and entertaining movie (I wrote ten or eleven reasons why I like it in the Batman & Robin thread).
I think some people hate it just because it's popular to do so...
I like it a lot, actually. It's a fun, colorful, cheeky movie that at least KNEW what it was, unlike Batman Forever which was genuinely oblivious to its own terribleness. Plus we got a lot of great toys, figures, merchandise, and music out of it. Don't get me wrong, I can see why some people groan about it, but I think it's a legitimate movie and has its place in the Batman universe.
