Its been 12 years since the infamous Batman & Robin movie came out. Its famous for all the wrong reasons. Described as the worst super hero movie of all time. Well until the likes of Hancock and The Spirit came out. Also the movie that destroyed the Batman franchise directed by the infamous Joel Schumaker. What people do not realize is Batman & Robin was based off the silver age Batman. You know the light toned Batman.

Now i'm defending this movie. It was the 12 best movie of 1997 and their was a good amount of movies to come out in 1997. Also it did good at the box office. But see looking at the movie. Over and over again i think it was decent. Now hear me out. It was based off the silver age Batman even Warner Bros said this. So of course the characters were gonna be light toned. And people say the movie was campy was not complete campy. Alfred getting sick and dying was not something funny. Bruce still in pain about his parents death was not funny. The family between Bruce, Dick and Alfred breaking up cause of argument and illness was not funny. Now i know somethings were stupid like most of the jokes but Gotham City looked Gotham to me. The gargoyles, furutistic style look and come on Schumaker Gotham better then Nolans which just looks like Chicago.

But anyways and i know this is long bear with me here but it was a decent movie. 12th best of 1997. So it was one of the best in 1997. It made good money at the box office so it did good at the box office. Made alot of money actually. So was not a bad movie. Spirit was terrible that movie bobmed at the box office. Batman & Robin did not bomb at the box office. Hancock failed at the box office Batman & Robin did not. Superman 3 and 4 failed at the box office and people say that movie was better then Batman & Robin. And like i said Batman & Robin did better then all them movies at the box office. Also it was the 3rd highest opening movie of 1997. So it was decent in my eyes and i know friends who liked the movie thought it was okay for what it was.

P.S. 1960s television show was golden! Another thing this movie was based off of. Now please i'm not crazy or insane in my opinion think this is a decent flick. For what it was. A silver age Batman people. This was not the Miller era Batman or Bob Kane era Batman.

Are you really trying to say Batman and Robin is better then Hancock and The Spirit? Also how was Hancock a flop? And I saw Batman and Robin in theaters and even then I knew I was watching one of the worst movies ever

Batman and Robin did not destroy the franchise in any way. If it did, we wouldn't have had rumors of a 5th Batman movie or BB and TDK.

And all of this has been said countless times in other threads.

This movie was a turd. It should have never been made. It is the Bane of my existence.

I made nothing compared to the first 3, and why? Because word got out that it sucked so hard.

It's a fun movie to watch. Sure it's full of stupid over the top scenes....but I like Adam West's Batman too. It was a big budget Adam west show.

I haven't seen Hancock yet....but it was a hundred times better than The Spirit.

Of all of the things that have made parts of my life troublesome....a movie has never came close. It must be nice that the worst thing to ever happen to you is that a movie you didn't like was made.

Hancock did bad at the box office and was stupid and made no sense. Spirit bobmed at the box office. Come on Batman & Robin better then those 2 movies. Made more money too.

Thanks! Nice someone agrees with me. And to the poster who said this was discussed in threads before just wanted to make an officialy thread so we can discuss it without going in other threads talking about it getting off that threads purpose of topic.

Hancock was a hit and made a lot more money then Batman and Robin and they're planning a sequel, and what part of it made no sense?

No it was not it got ton of negative views and so what they was planning on making a sequel to Batman.

And everything made no sense. Them being gods come on that was not explained well. Them not being able to be near each other or touch each other or they lose their powers yet they were married. Also the main villian come on a handless dude? Seriously. Come on movie was crap.

And he wore a ripoff Wolverine costume from X-Men movies lol. What sequel they gonna do thats gonna be worst.

Hancock I liked untill about halfway through. I don't think they were really gods Scarcrow, it was just a name that people associated them with back in the day. Later it became angles and finally superhero. If I remember right the reason they split was because it was to risky to live with each other with no powers. The handless dude however I will agree that he was a total lame ass.

Now. Batman and Robin. Well....it was.....Batman and Robin. It was not great. But sometimes I still try and watch it. But always end up saying...

Batman & Robin's main goal was to sell toys and not to actually make a good movie. The whole thing was hollow eye-candy, if you can even call it eye-candy. I mean between Arnold's cheesy one liners, iceskates on the bottom of their boots, being able to breathe and survive that high in the atmosphere and survive while skyboarding on parts of Freezes rocket is beyond anything even Batman could do.

Pair that with them ruining Mr. Freeze and Bane on a whole, and the whole Bat family thing definitely not working. I love how Ivy who wanted to take the world over with plants and Freeze who wanted to freeze the world would team up. Schumacher even said his nephew's favorite rogues at the time were Ivy and Freeze. That's how he picked them, and to give Ivy some muscle he made Bane her dumb bodyguard.

Robin gets frozen so Batman picks up a probably 180 pound guy, with the added weight of the ice of about 250 at least, and he picks him up like he's a bread basket and drops him in water.

Robin busting through the museum wall and the hole being in the symbol of the Bat.

There is no defending this movie, you can't even call it decent. It's most likely one of the worst movies ever made. And those terrible moments are only what I can remember.

It was like the comics of the 50's and 60's.

But that's the thing Lee, I love the Batman series with Adam West, I love the Superman series with George Reeves, but there was a time and a place for it. Seeing a big budget movie trying to be anything like them just doesn't work for me. Chips is one of my favorite shows of all time, same thing with Lost in Space, they can't be updated, not with the same tone they had at the time. It just doesn't work again.

I didn't say it wasn't stupid, goofy, and weird....as a matter of fact, I believe I said it was stupid in an earlier post.....I just seemed to be able to put that to the side and laugh at it like did the Adam west show. When you need a laugh and want to put your day to day worries to the side....slap in some Batman and Robin, get a pizza, and relax.

Just so I am on the same page. If a movie makes more money than another that makes it better  Cause last time I checked there are a few movies that made assloads of money that were terrible.....

As far as this movie goes it definitely wasn't the best but it is fun to watch and rip apart like me and my friends did this weekend. Some of the one liners are so ridiculous.

Some people say that...but I don't. I seem to like lots of movies that were financial failures.

Pretty much my point. Because if we are gonna base whether or not a movie was good on how much money it made, then Dance Flick and Wolverine were phenomenal films :whatever::whatever::whatever:

Exactly! It was not great but decent. I can see if it was based off the 80s Batman but it was based off the 50s and 60s. Personally I love to see a Batman movie baed off the 70s. Cause Burtons/Nolans movies based off Batman from the 40s and 80s. Schumaker's was based off the 50s and 60s. I wanna see a Batman flick based off the 70s which had great stories.

The whole the movie made money thing was just an added bonus. People say that movies are trash but the ones like this they say were bad made money and alot of it so it had to be not that bad to make ton of money like it did.

This movie sucked. It turned bane from criminal mastermind into an idiot. No other incarnation of Bane is this stupid. Also the ice puns sucked. The plot was a mess and I just didnt like it.

As for light hearted silver age batman done right, watch The brave and the bold. Because it is light hearted without being terribad like this movie. I love that cartoon.

All Bane did in the Brave and The Bold episode he appeared in was growl wonder wear that came from?

And Batman & Robin was Brave & The Bold on film.

It was better than Superman IV.

The biggest/ funniest flaw in this movie is that Alfred created a plastic moulded coustume to his niece's exact measurements. How'd he get them? And how did he feel when creating the butt and breasts?
