To begin the panel, Bendis emerged with a platter full of leftover sandwiches from the Todd McFarlane panel earlier in the day. He announced that anybody who asked a good question would receive a McFarlane sandwich. Those in attendence were treated to a whole slew of announcements coming from McCann, who first treated the crowd to a view of some pictures of Bendis compared side by side with pictures of Ernie from Sesame Street.

• Secret Invasion #4 will be releasing on July 7.

• Secret Warriors, a new ongoing series spun out of Secret Invasion, will be co-written by Brian Michael Bendis and Jonathan Hickman. "He's a fantastic new voice in comics in the vein of Matt Fraction and I'm very happy to introduce his work to you," said Bendis.

• Following Secret Invasion, the art duties on New Avengers will be filled by Billy Tan on pencils and Matt Banning inking. It was also announced that Banning is now Marvel exclusive. Preview art from issue #44 was shown.

• Preview art for Mighty Avengers #16 was shown featuring a character with a flaming skull drawn by Koi Pham. The issue will explain everyone's favorite infiltrator, Skrullectra.

• Brian Michael Bendis's graphic novel, Fortune and Glory, will be released in a hardcover version in time for the Christmas season.

• A new Spider-Woman series called Spider-Woman: Agent of S.W.O.R.D. will debut with Bendis on writing duties and the artistic talent of Alex Maleev. Whichever character will be in the Spider-Woman suit will be in a "dark, dark place in the Marvel Universe."

• Original art was debuted with a very Illuminati-like feel featuring characters such as Emma Frost and Doctor Doom.

During the question and answer session, Bendis revealed (with the distribution of sandwiches) that he has penned a pilot for an upcoming Powers television show. While the sandwiches were the most entertaining thing aside from the panel itself, a special nod must be given to Marvel writer Brian Reed, who sat in the audience and managed to be just as involved in the panel as Bendis himself.

The end of the panel was especially poignant, ending with a somber tribute to longtime artist and colleague, Michael Turner. Turner's artwork was shown amidst a respectful silence from audience members and kind words from Brian Michael Bendis and C.B. Cebulski.
If this is true, I'm on board.

From MTV @ NYCC 02/06/2009: Brian Bendis Confirms Live-Action ‘Powers’ TV Series Headed To FX, First Draft Completed

Rick Marshall said:
During the first day of New York Comic Con, MTV News sat down with Brian Michael Bendis, one of the primary architects of the Marvel Comics universe, to get an update on the upcoming television adaptation of “Powers,” his comic book series with Michael Avon Oeming that explores a superhero-populated world via the conventions of police procedural drama. Bendis announced late last year that “Powers” would become a television series, but confirmed where the series would air in today’s interview.

“‘Powers’ is in active development as a pilot at FX,” Bendis told MTV. “I just handed in a draft to the network and we’re getting our notes from the network as soon as this thing is over. So next week I’ll get the notes, and as long as they don’t involve sock puppets and some sort of orgy scene that I’m not interested in, then hopefully it will go in the right direction.”

“But they’re a very smart network,” added Bendis. “It seems like the right place for it to be.”

Bendis went on to describe some of the trials and tribulations of bringing the series, which began as an independently published project and was eventually brought under Marvel’s publishing imprint Icon, to the small screen. “Powers” was optioned as a feature film in 2001, but the project never came to fruition.

“When we first sold it as a feature, we were lucky to get it optioned right away by Sony,” said Bendis. “We had to sit through waves of screenplays that were just inappropriate for the product, and for fans of the book. There were whole drafts of the screenplay without Deena Pilgrim [one of the series' two main characters] in them. They’d hand me the screenplay and go, “What’s wrong with this?” and I’d go “He has no one to talk to!”

“After years of that it’s nice to have come out the other side and finally been given my chance to find out what the live-action language of ‘Powers’ is, versus the comic book language of ‘Powers.’”

Brian Bendis Offers Updates On 'Powers' TV Series, 'Thor' And 'Avengers' Movies

Earlier this year, it was announced that Brian Michael Bendis’ “Powers” had been optioned as a pilot for FX. And now it appears that the project has taken significant steps forward.

In an interview with G4, Bendis revealed that while the “Powers” TV pilot hasn’t yet been given the green light to shoot, a showrunner and a director are firmly on board.

That was one hell of a bump!

What was Powers again? And since this is quite old, will this still be happening? Also, where are my pants?

So I can replace Heroes with this? AWESOME!

Journeyman's Kevin Falls Adapting Powers!

Source:Premium Hollywood January 23, 2010

Premium Hollywood (via Ain't It Cool News) has learned that "Journeyman" creator Kevin Falls is writing the TV pilot for the Sony adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis' "Powers" at FX.

If FX gives the pilot the green light, Michael Dinner ("Karen Sisco," "Kidnapped") would reportedly direct.

"Powers" is a superhero police/noir detective series that Bendis co-created with Michael Avon Oeming, who also does the art.
I never watched Journeyman, didnt look interesting to me, but I hope this turns out great.

Glad to hear from SDCC that FX is still interested in this. I was worried it might have gotten dropped.

But when will we get a definate? This has been in limbo for 2yrs now.

You haven’t missed the news about Powers, right? Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s comic book series was announced last year for a TV series and officially greenlit by FX on Friday. The story is set in a world of superheroes, following a pair of homicide detectives who are tasked with investigating apparent superhuman-related deaths. One of the cops, Christian Walker, is a former superhero who lost his powers, and the other, Deena Pilgrim, is trying to hide recently developed powers of her own.

It’s a great setup for a police procedural tinged with a bit of the fantastic, which is the direction Bendis has said things are heading in the TV series. One name you know is already pursuing the Pilgrim role: Katee Sackhoff, of Battlestar Galactica fame. She tweeted earlier in the week, before the series got it’s greenlight, “Already met on #powers last year! I love it! I’ve just been waiting for a green light to go after it!”

Coincidental timing, that tweet coming just before the go-ahead was given. Or perhaps she got a heads-up from someone involved in the series? Either way, Sackhoff would be a dynamite fit for the Pilgrim role and the series would be elevated by her presence. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed.

Just finished reading the first arc yesterday. Its pretty good.
Also a good idea for them to make it into a tv series and not a movie.

Who do you guys want cast?

Kyle Chandler Courted For FX's 'Powers'
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler, who turned down a slew of offers for broadcast pilots this season, is now being courted for FX's drama pilot Powers. Based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, the project, written by Charles H. Eglee and to be directed by Michael Dinner, is a police procedural set in a world where superpowers are relatively common. It centers on two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, in a homicide department that deals with cases involving "powers" (people with superpowers). Powers, from Sony Pictures TV and FX Prods., went through a couple of incarnations, including one with writer Kevin Falls.

Chandler has not committed to Powers and will not make a decision until he reads the new script. I hear the pilot was already slated to undergo a rewrite, which is now expected to incorporate notes from Chandler. So him signing for Powers is considered a long shot, but if he opts to do it, FX would successfully reunite the two Friday Night Lights leads -- Connie Britton recently signed on to star in American Horror Story, the Ryan Murphy-Brad Falchuk pilot for the cable network. At FX's upfront party last night in New York, FX president John Landgraf said that Powers, along with Outlaw Country, are contenders for an early 2012 series launch, while American Horror looks good for a fall 2011 premiere. Chandler has been very selective in choosing his TV follow-up to FNL, passing on a number of projects, including Terra Nova.
I'll be interested to see what comes of this...

He sure looks the part.

Love Kyle Chandler. I'll watch him in anything.

Wasnt who I pictured though. But I'd be stoked if he got it

I wonder what the hold-up is with the casting here. Chandler gets rumored and then we get nothing...

Hmm, surprised no one posted this bit before:

Charles S. Dutton, perhaps best known for his roles in Roc and Alien 3, has been cast in Powers, the FX adaptation of the long-running comic series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’ll play Captain Cross, head of the homicide division where detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim investigate cases involving “powers” — people with superhuman abilities — in a world in which superheroes and supervillains are common.

The pilot, greenlit by the cable network in February, will be directed by executive producer Michael Dinner (Justified, Sons of Anarchy). The script is by Charles “Chic” Eglee, former executive producer of The Walking Dead and veteran of such television series as Murder One, The Shield and Dexter. The series is a co-production of Sony and FX Productions.

FX Networks President John Landgraf has said he hopes to begin production on the Powers pilot “somewhere between late May and early July,” with an eye toward a premiere in early 2012. The network is reportedly courting former Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler to play Christian Walker.

Dutton, a three-time Emmy Award winner, co-starred in the short-lived CBS science fiction series Threshold. He most recently appeared in the 2009 supernatural thriller Legion.
