As many of you know, Byrne's Supes was amazing. Now just wondering, other than depowering him and the birthing matrix, how did BYRNE change Superman from what he was before in pre-crisis?

Please help me. Detailed answers please, though this isn't some book report.

Pre-Crisis: Clark Kent as the mask, Superman feels quite Kryptonian, Superboy, Superman probably the most important and famous hero of the galaxy, first superhero on Earth
Byrne-Age: Superman is the disguise, Superman doesn't care about Krypton, no Superboy, perfect life. one of many superheroes and not one of the first.

Things like no Supergirl, his parents alive, Superman as the last Kryptonian, Lex Luthor as CEO are other factors, but it was a reboot so most of his old continuity didn't count anymore and with time lots of the old things started to creep into the new reality. Which makes you think about this: Superman didn't fight any important villains in his first years, unlike Batman who had already encountered most of his rogue gallery.
