I was in a comic shop in the town where my school is and I was buying a couple monthlies. I was making small talk and I mentioned the great work Morrison is doing. He didn't seem to know what I was talking about. But that's fine because not everyone reads Batman and I understand that. so I said "OH you know he's that guy who did the prose issue on Batman with the Joker's transformation" thinking maybe he had at least heard of such a crazy idea. He scoffed and like rolled his eyes and said "I'm not a Batman fan and I'm definitely not a JOker fan." Has anyone else gotten this now that the character is so popular and "mainstream". Like a bunch of people going all "Nerd Pride" on you because you like a character that is popular? Like they are real comic book fans and you're just some poser? Let's hear your thoughts and experiences

Well the success of the new movies did indeed bring forth a lot of "posers" and bandwagon jumpers. That being said I look like a "regular" guy but in 22 years no comic nerd has ever dared question my knowledge of and loyalty to the medium. Certainly not because I'm a huge Batman fan. That's cause I'm usually on my p's and q's on a lot more than just Batman though.

I can understand some resentment and someone not being a Batman fan, but that guy defiantly seemed to be one of those "indie-comic worshippers" who tend to stray away from the mainstream Marvel and DC stuff.

Yeah, I dunno it just felt unnecessary, I was just being folksy. Plus, you would think in an industry that is somewhat dying like comic books (although does seem to be making a come back) that people would welcome newcomers in any form (not that I'm a n00b :yay: I've read comics for years, but you see my point). I dunno, it's like those pretentious alt people that think they are way cooler than you with their hand rolled cigarettes and their beat poetry. :argh:

I guess non-Batman fans feel the character is just way too popular and can't really see the distincion from good Batman comics to bad movies like Batman & Robin.

I was already a fan two years before Tim Burton's film but newer fans who aren't familiar with Batman's history take everything they've seen in the movies at face value.

-people think Joker killed Bruce's parents
-they think Batman wears all black
-they think Catwoman was a lowly mousy secretary

If many Batman fans act in public the way they act on the net...then I would understand a prejudice against them.

Words. Words. Words.

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Well it's lame that as a fan of the Comicbook character Batman I should get slack because of other people. Bue I guess everyone just wants to pretend like they are the most original and different. It's jusy like, why do comics need to be so exclusive and often pretentious? I don't get it. I try not to be that way, and yet, I catch myself doing it all the time. Why?

you can thank "the Dark Knight" for all of the hate. movie makes a mockery out of Batman comic fans because it was 'SOO REAAAALL' and comics are SOO fake

:hehe: especially even more funny after I bothered much to my regret to even look through some threads in The Dark Knight sequel spoiler board.

Actually that would be the fans then not the film, which just took a different approoach whether you agree with it or not. The crazy fans are another thing, just remember all those threads when the first Joker pic surfaced and suddenly a thousand posters were talking about how "stupid" the comic Joker origin is and how they never took it seriously. Yeah, its not like Batman exists in a world of plant controlling women and freeze gun toting madmen at all.

Yeah that's quite funny actually. I do not take these people too seriously. Sheep mentality. It's part of human nature.

But I am glad that the real life is much different from the Internet of today, before it these strange beings existed but now thanks to the www they know eachother. :cwink:

MY god is that true?? I'm glad I missed that... although I must say I like TKJ only as a theory not as a steadfast origin. Cause the Joker, to me, is better left an enigma
