“I want to let everyone know there was neither any malice nor deliberate intent whatsoever to hit or harm the hawk. I was trying to simply scare it into flying away.”

Oh yeah, that's why you said "I'll get him now" and then became excited when a ball was close to it's head.

This guy is a ****ing idiot. I hope he gets fined, put in jail, and suspended from the PGA for a year. I have to ask my dad, who is a big golf fan, if this guy is an ******* because he sounds like one.

I'll accept hawk hunting with golf balls as a sport, but not golf by itself.

I am not condoning what he did but when the engineer says the following:

“He can put a ball in a hole from hundreds of yards away, and here he is hitting line drives at something that’s, I don’t know, a couple hundred feet away?”

It is total nonsense. For a golfer to hit a flying bird from a distance is a 1 in 10 shot even for top professionals. Golfers do not hit balss into holes from hundreds of yards away on a regular basis.

If there was no intent it is not illegal and I do not see how they can possibly prove intent in this case. I suppose they will argue that the intent was simply playing golf (much as the intent is simply intent to drive drunk in vehicular manslaughter, even if you did not intend to kill someone). But its still going to be hard to make it stick.

He was intentionally trying to hit it. He wasn't playing golf and a bird flew in the way of his ball.
