I've seen alot of threads regarding different areas of filmmaking, but I have yet to see one addressing the best in production design.

I've always been fairly blown away by the work that was done on both of Burton's Bat-films. Everything about it just looked like nothing I'd ever seen before or since. Bo Welch, who worked on BR also worked on Edward Scissorhands, which looked ****ing beautiful too.

I really liked AI's futuristic design.

I LOVED House of Wax. Sure, when it comes down it you could say it was generic. But, all of that work was amazing. I mean, they had to literally build that entire wax town from scratch! And every detail was there and then some. There's something about that, that I've always found amazing.

Joseph Kosinski and Darren Gilford's work on Tron Legacy and Oblivion. Easily some of the best architectural work i've seen in any movie.

I recently saw a movie on Netflix streaming called The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh. The whole thing takes place in a house, but MAN what a beautiful house! It's decorated to an absurd degree with religious iconography, taxidermy etc. My girlfriend commented "I don't care if anything even happens in this film, I just want to look around the house for 2 hours." Lucky for her, not much happened and touring the house is about all that happens in the film.

I had the same reaction to Curse of the Golden flower.

call me crazy but the guys that made a live action Bedrock in the 2 Flinstones movies did a great job from the houses, props, to the cars.

Ken Adams with all the classic Bond flicks.

The art direction and production design in the Harry Potter films were stunning. When I went to Universal Orlando to see the theme park, the attention to detail from the films was spot on. So much so, I could spend hours looking in Dumbledore's study or the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. (It was like the production had deconstructed and shipped the sets to the U.S., that's how good it was.)

I also really enjoyed the production design work on Blade Runner as well as Anton Furst's amazing work on Batman.
