Project X - "The party youve only dreamed about"

I wanna check it just to see how crazy it gets, but all these reviews about how terrible all the characters are and how theres are no redeeming qualities about them are giving me second thoughts . Hate watching annoying, mean spirited *****bag leads were supposed to care for trying to be cool and being awarded for it. Usually thats a job for Jason Voorhees to take care of.

I can sometimes tolerate a cast of overly annoying or unlikeable cast of characters depending on how they are.

As long as its funny I think I can tolerate it. From the reviews it sounds like the characters just assume talking **** and being obnoxious= instant comedy and people will like us.

Saw part of it today since I just theatre hopped after watching The Artist. Basically it is Superbad only in footage cam form.

Just got back from seeing this and I really enjoyed it. It defintely lacks the charm that movies like The Hangover and Superbad have, but its pretty fun to see all the craziness unfold. The movie makes you feel like your at this party every step of the way, and the music is just right for every scene.

As for the three main characters, they are basically high school versions of the hangover crew or some would say over the top versions of the characters in Superbad. I didn't really find them to be *****ebags like some people have been saying. They just seemed like typical high school kids. It's not like they are arrogant bullies or anything. Though I quess some people can find them to be a bit annoying.

Anyway, I did laugh a bit at the jokes and just trip out over all the crazy stuff that was going on at this party. Also, this movie has to have a record for the most naked boobs shown in one movie.

If your not in the target demo for this or if you didn't like the trailer or if your looking for a deep plot and character development then you would be wise to skip this. For everyone else, I would recommend seeing it if you just want a few laughs and watch a crazy party unfold on screen. I give it 3/5 stars.
( it must have been a BLAST on set during this movie).

Well thats good to know, critics can be pretty harsh on these flicks. Audiences seem to have a good time with it and have less judgement. Even MTV had an article that seemed to agree with the reviews bashing it. Thought the flick would be in their demographic.

This movie MADE me want to be there partying with them. Although some of the situations were pretty unbelievable, the performances of mostly every one at the party felt natural. Personally, I enjoyed Project X more than I did The Hangover.

I will say that any party movie comming out in the future has a really hard job of topping this. The party in this movie is just so crazy, unreal and looks soo freaking fun! I literally had a dream last night that I was at a party like that. I might go with some friends and see this again tonight.

Whoa.

That's a pretty bold statement buddy...

Never really thought The Hangover was that funny, the sequel was a bit better though.

Loved Project X. Any other party movie that comes now is most likely going to be compared to it.

It seems that the main criticism of the movie, from older critics, is the example the movie sets on the young audiences with it's use of alcohol, drugs, and the characters not learning much.

It's understandable since most of those critics probably have children and would fear such a situation in the movie.

It's probably the most realistic in regards to how a party would actually go down. Not with the outlandish stuff that happens, but how it gets started.

It just looks like a fun and goofy time at the movies to me, nothing to take seriously. Not surprising critics are trashing it.

.

Superbad is definitely the funnier movie, but Project X had it's fair share of comedy. Out of the two, I'd say that Project X is the movie that you have more fun with. While it was a great movie, The Hangover is the least funniest and fun of the group imo. Sure it had these comical characters getting into these crazy situations, but it just wasn't that funny to me for it to be memorable.

Just saw it. One of the worst written movies Ive seen. IN no way should this film ever be in the same category as Superbad or The Hangover. Those are actual films. I have no problem following characters who think the bs they talk and their idiocy is awesome but when it feels like the writers actually think this is cool it is a problem. I guess the lead did an ok job but his friends are the most annoying characters in any movie out right now. Theres actually nothing to this movie except annoying characters and the party itself, and its not even that crazy till the last 20 min. See it for the beautiful naked women (Alexis Knapp especially), Dark KNight Rises trailer and 21 Jump street extended red band trailer. Nothing else. Actually, if your seeing it for the chicks just stay home and watch porn or late night cinemax. The jokes are funnier and the cameras not as shaky. Found footage films must die.....unless its Chronicle 2.

I don't mind the "found footage" genre, and think other types of movies can work in that particular format when they're done right.

This movie had no reason to use it. It makes zero sense. It would have been impossible to get the coverage/shots in this film. I like the way Cloverfield and the intro of Chronicle used it.

Project X borrows from every teenagers throw a party when mom and dad go out of town flick ever made.
Think House Party and Risky Business with a little Some Kind of Wonderful mixed in.
Its short on plot and story basically 3 guys Thomas (Thomas Mann), Costa (Oliver Cooper) and J.B.(Jonathan Daniel Brown), plan to gain popularity by throwing a party, and of course chaos ensues.
I usually find the "found footage" gimmick annoying but i loved the voyeur feel this time around. There are a few corny moments, but it makes up for it with some hilarious and original moments. If you missed out on that rave at high school or college because you were cramming for finals or something pop into this party for a little over 80 minutes.
Scale of 1-10 an 8

Oh man I thought this was a remake of the Mathew Brodderick film 'Project X' from the 80's.

What makes zero sense about it? The movie was written with the intention of it being shot that way.

There are jump cuts of same shots and switches of angles which would be impossible for just one camera to get, theres no way that guy can get everything everywhere unless hes the flash. Its shot like a Friday Night Lights episode with multiple angles. If they wanted the vibe of doc style the filmakers could have just shot it a bit shakey with the same cam, without it being like one of the friends is shooting it found footage. I get that later at the party they make it seem like its different cameras and phones but its done very few and far between. It did not need to be found footage it added nothing, and would have been impossible for someone to shoot let alone edit like the final product with just one take. Found footage shouldnt break the rule of seeming like a real movie. Otherwise its pointless and you break your illusion.

I know alot of people hated this but this movie was sort of a guilty pleasure for me. And it's ranks as one of the best party movies ever. Its targeted to people in my age group high school and college age ( I am 24) so I might pick this up tommorow. I haven't decided LoL.

Oh yeah I liked this movie a lot. Imo it was the greatest party movie ever at least that Ive seen

There were a few sporadic laughs throughout this film, but this movie was bad all around. The trio is unlikeable and grating, and that kills any sympathy or any kind of empathy for the destruction they bring.

Found footage comedies should die a quick, painful death. Project X isn't worth buying, let alone renting.
