PS3 controller works with menu not games?!

Not sure if anyone can make sense of this nonsensical situation, but here goes.

I turn on my PS3, easily navigate threw the menu, select inserted game I want to play, it loads, and right before it gets to the start menu it tells me to please reconnect my wireless controller and press start.

I do this, nothing happens. I press the ps button, quit game, and reload, all things that let me know my controller is indeed functioning.

Again, once I get to were the game is about to start this happens again.

I quit once more, load up on of my saved demos to see if maybe it is just the game in question bugging up... No, same damned thing.

Check your controller setting and make sure it is assigned to player one.

Try resetting the controller. Here is how to do it.
