Though there's still so much up in the air about the PS3 still, the controller is really one of the hot button issues.

There was an update today, based on Japanese tech site Broadband Watch.

According to the report, the controller will have to be paired to the console via the USB cable before play. This pairing process will be required each time the console has been shut down and turned back on, or - given the rough translation - possibly every time the controller has lost power.

It's unlikely that putting the console into standby mode will cause a reconnection requirement, if it's console-related. It's also unlikely that many of those lucky (?) enough to get a launch PS3 are going to want to leave it on, even powered-down, 24/7.

Those wondering about battery life will be happy to note the controller is expected to get about 30 hours of playtime out of one 2.5 hour charge. As the battery isn't replaceable, when it's no longer recharging the controller needs to be replaced or sent for repairs.

Does either option seem especially appealing?

Oh well, it's not like we can't trust Sony's batteries.

Geezy. So HOW much will this system cost you in its lifetime??

All issues I brought up when the controller was first announced but was called a 'moron' and told I was 'Complaining for the sake of it' by certain members of these boards :o

While not being replacable isn't the best news, 99 percent chance these things will run off the same battery as the PSP, and when have we ever heard reports of those dying? Never. So it sort of sucks that the battery isn't replacable, but the controller isn't disposable since they really wouldn't be doing anything else beside replacing the battery when you send it in.

wow not replaceable :o
thats lame, but im sure the controllers wont crap out on us

I meant you can't physically repalce the battery. :o

i know what you meant :)

so if this controller does die on us theres no way to buy a new controller?
id have to have it opened up and buy a new battery?

Well you could buy a new controller from the store, I bet it would be less expensive to send it in tog et fixed though.

what type of battery is it? Because a lithium ion battery would last well around five years or so

This is so ****ed up.

PSPs supposedly have horrible battery life.

They do, but you recharge them. My friend plays his PSP for roughly 8 hours a day nearly every day since launch. It's still working fine for him. God only knows what the **** he's doing that much on the system, but eh.

Also, I wasn't really worried about the battery life, it's the other stuff in that article that worries me. The controllers wont work unless they're plugged in when the system is turned on/have to be plugged in before they work? What the **** is that?

What's the point of even having a wireless controller in that case?

its saying the ps3 charges the controller, you can use it wile its charging but you cant play wirelessly until its fully charged

and they system has to be turned on with the controller pluged into the usb to charge.

also if the battery pack does die out, you can still use the controller but it will have to be permenintly connected with the usb, you can always buy a new controller but.

and also news from dcemu, sont plans on giving out a year warentee on the controlers, and they garentee atleast 1,000 charges before the controllers batery pack officialy craps out

i also heard someware you can charge the controller on your computer

lmao...everyone dumb enough to buy a ps3 deserves this :)

That's because of the PSP's functions not the battery itself.

The 360 beats the PS3 when it comes to this you just plug in the USB & the controller charges on or off :woot:

The system just keeps sounding worse and worse. I think it will sell alot, and then piss off a LOT of people.

Yeah it does, I get about 3-4 hours of gameplay out of mine, about 8 hours of viewing stuff and about well an hour using the net. Still I'm gonna be getting a bigger battery for it soon, giving me like 10 hours of gameplay, not great still but it'll do.

I know. But the ironic thing is, the dumbasses could avoided being pissed off in the first place by having a clue.

What we need to know is how long before a PS3 controller stops charging.

Look at cellphones. I can have mine on for about 5 days strait before it runs out of batteries. Talktime is about a 2 and a half hour strait period before it dies from fully charged. Playing a game is like an hour and a half, and surfing the net is around 30-45 mins.

Most stuff with battries is like this. On GBA's and such, if you have the volume up, it burns the batteries faster.

I just get very weary of gadgets with Sony Batteries inside of them...
