PSPhone w/ Android support on the way?

The Xperia Play will be pre-loaded with an unknown "legendary" PS1 title (psst! -- it's Crash Bandicoot), along with a smattering of launch content -- but it won't be loaded with all that PlayStation Network content you've purchased. Speaking with GameSpot UK, Sony Ericsson UK managing director Nathan Vautier confirmed, "[Xperia Play owners] will have to repurchase the games, so it's not totally integrated."

Beyond the Android Marketplace, Xperia Play owners will purchase content through the PlayStation Store; access to said store will come via Sony's PlayStation Suite, launching "later this year." Unfortunately, it seems that content you've already purchased -- say, PS1 titles that will also be available for purchase on Xperia Play -- must be repurchased for use on the handheld. We can't say we're super surprised. Or mad, even, really. Just disappointed.

A hands on with video.

Just as I thought. This is not a Playstation Phone, but just an Android phone with videogame controls.

Yeah, PlayStation Suite is available over all these phones, there's just buttons to this one.

The PSN news is very dissapointing. I wasn't going to pick one up in the first place but damn that's dropping the balls.

NGP, psp2?
yep thats right dual analogs, and a top of the line device indeed.

Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play, the first PlayStation-certified Android smartphone, will launch in the UK on Mar. 31 with six games pre-installed, according to reports on UK gaming site MCV. The Xperia Play will come pre-loaded with Bruce Lee Dragon Warriors, Tetris, Star Battalion, Crash Bandicoot, FIFA 10 and The Sims 3, with a further 50 games available through the PlayStation Suite online store.
The phone is currently available for pre-order via many British online retailers, with SIM-free prices hovering around £500 (~$800). Subsidized on-contract prices should be competitive, as the Xperia Play is being offered on all major UK networks.

I read this as well. The bolded I thought was very interesting.

NVIDIA and Sony have announced that the latter will be bringing its PlayStation Suite software to Tegra-powered Android phones and tablets later this year. PlayStation Suite was announced at Sony's PlayStation Meeting 2011 earlier this year, and will bring classic PlayStation titles to Android devices along with new games created especially for the platform.
Sony also revealed that certain PlayStation 2 titles will also be making their way to the PlayStation Suite, in addition to PS1 titles, as announced back in January.
The arrival of PlayStation Suite on Tegra devices should clear the way for Sony's rumored S1 tablet, which is said to be due in late 2011 with a Tegra 2 chip and PlayStation support.

So does that mean PS2 games will finally be coming to the PSN Store sometime soon as well?

LOL those commercials are great, Kristen Schaal is hilarious.

Also, my brother was the art director on Star Battalion, so if you're getting a Play be sure to try it out (it's one of the pre-installed games anyway so it's not like there's any reason not to). :D

That is awesome Tim. I will not be getting the phone, but do you know if it will be part of the PS Suite? I could get it when it is released on to the Market. Whenever that happens that is . lol.

I imagine it will be part of the suite. I'm not sure of the exact details since my brother was only involved in the development process when they were making the original iPhone version, and so the Android / PS Suite versions are being handled by a different part of the company. Assuming it's a PS Suite app and not just an Android app that's been updated for the Play's controls, it will probably be available on the suite. If not initially, then probably not later than after they've stopped including it as a pre-installed app on the Play.

So looks like the phone released in Europe and Asia i hope there is a review up.
