Quaid, Foster to Star in Pandorum

then if that's the case, we've seen this type of movie before (people isolated on a space station). so many friggin' times, it's not funny.

Yeah, that is why I get the feeling it won't be great. I will go see it, but it feels too familiar.

and when there's no advance reviews, it makes me wonder.. (Sept kinda sucks for movies anyway. Well mainstream movies.)

That's like saying we've seen so many films where people were at war or so many films that took place out at sea. I don't see why that means the movie will be bad or subpar. If anything it's just another opportunity to give us a possibly good/great film set in space.

People isolated on a space station is a bit more inclusive than people at war or people at sea. You could go even further and say that people isolated on a space station being killed by monsters or people isolated on a space station and going mad is much more inclusive and has been seen many times. I still have hopes that it will be good, but it does feel all too familiar. That would be like saying people isolated on a freighter at sea and a mad men or monster is killing them. We have seen those movies a lot too.

My main point was the fact that everything has been done just about so there is no harm in trying something new with an already existing/used formula or setting in this case.

I just won't condemn the film for that reason alone.

No, you shouldn't condemn it and I don't think Octoberist was either. I will go see it, I just don't have any expectations for it because I think I figured out the plot. I really like Ben Foster so he is my main reason for wanting to see it. Dude is a fantastic actor.

Yeah, i'm not completely writing Pandorum off. I said "IF" the movie ends being paint by the numbers, I would be disappointed

Agreed.

I know you weren't completely writing it off. I just felt that just because other movies have done the whole, stuck on a spaceship and someone has gone insane/lost their mind route doesn't mean other films can't try it as well. For all we know there could be more of a twist to it than just that.

Saw this today. The beginning and ending of the film are really good...especially the ending. A prequel and sequel could work well, but I have a feeling they won't make it that far. The middle part of the film is kind of generic, but still good. There's one scene that really made me jump, but other than that, it wasn't too scary. Event Horizon freaked me out more. Ben Foster did excellent, and Quaid was ok too. Overall an enjoyable film.

I want to see this . I'm glad to read good reviews thus far.

this movie was great!!

the weird tv spots scared me to think it was gonna suck, but it was actually pretty awesome. Especially considering movies produced(not directed) by paul anderson usually are lame.

and usually for these type of movies the endings leave a bad taste in my mouth.. but the ending was pleasing. From the second the movie starts til the end there's pure thrills and countless questions to be answered.

paul ws anderson in even horizon mode.

8 out of 10!.. not for everyone though.

This has gotten mixed reviews so far so not sure if I will bother seeing, it does look like my type of movie though and Ben Foster is a great actor.

Pandorum was "meh" in my book. about a 5/10

There are a couple of interesting twists, but most of the movie is drawn-out scenes of people scrambling through grease and slime, punctuated by overly-loud scenes of the creatures in pursuit. When will today's filmmakers realize that annoyingly loud does NOT equal scary?
I guess if you really like the Resident Evil films or you thought Event Horizon was totally great you might like Pandorum a lot, but it was only about what I expected, and my expectations weren't very high.

if you dont see it in theaters.. then its a high- must rent. lol

$4.4 million first week with a budget of $40 million....ouch.

A pretty good anti-anarchy story with an interesting psychological element. Really good performances from Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster; the visceral side of the movie suffers a bit because the creatures move so damn fast I could hardly follow what was happening during the chase scenes, but the movie isn't overly reliant on it anyway.

I thought the film was pretty good. The action could have been better, but there were some great fight scenes here and there. Definitely loved the psychological aspect of it, because really, when you think about what it would be like to be in that situation, how do you maintain your sanity? I'm sure it's rough enough for astronauts in real life who don't go as far as Earth's orbit. The idea of pretty much being so far from Earth that it'd take decades to get back, it is pretty frightening.

I read a review on RT that said one of the monsters tosses a character a pipe/some object so that they can then fight:dry: I skipped it. I will check this out on dvd.

Overture is lucky it is owned by Starz...they haven't been as lucky as Summit (Twilight and Knowing two hits for them)

It was so that guy could fight it. It was giving him a chance cause he had no weapon.

Yep.

What didn't make sense...big spoiler...

Ok, Payton and Gallo are the same person. Ok, I buy that. But how many years passed on that ship? Had to be 20 years and how long was the ship in the ocean? Do people not age or age slower when in those sleep chambers?

Well, the idea isn't new. Remember in Aliens, Ripley had been in hypersleep (Pandorum actually uses that exact same term for it) for almost 60years. It's some form of cryogenic stasus. I actually love the idea that the people in hypersleep actually build up dead skin when they're in their chambers. And it made for such a sick visual when Ben Foster woke up at the beginning. I loved it.

That was dead skin? Did not know....thought it was some type of goo or something.

Gallo hair color is different from Payton's hair color.
