Hi there :woot: this one's for the comic book experts.
I remember reading years ago a story with the Justice League and the Justice Society--don't remember the details right now but it was about paralles worlds —or something like that, ahem— and enemies from one world coming to the other and so on. Anyway, the concept behind the parallel worlds explained something like that both worlds existed in the same place, but talked about vibrations or something like that.. Sorry to be so loose about the concept but I don't have the comic book at hand--anyway, what I wanna ask is.. can anyone explain this concept..? Fully explain it.. how does it work and all that. I'm interested in the concept.. plus I wanna write about it, heh

That'll be it.. let's see if someone can explain this to me (yeah, I'm that slow..)

Well...there's really not much more to it than that. :o The DC Universe is comprised of a multiverse, which means that besides the one universe that all the main stories take place in, there are 51 other universes vibrating at different frequencies. You can access different worlds by vibrating to the right frequency -- which is something that usually only Flashes can do -- or by travelling through the Bleed...which is the space between worlds, outside of the Source Wall which stands at the boundaries of a universe. During a Crisis, the walls between universes are especially thin and the Bleed bleeds through to the become visible, which is why there are red skies.

That's...pretty much it. Anything more detailed than that is just comic book science jargon, or technical history. For instance, there wasn't always a multiverse; originally there was one universe, but then this happened so that the one universe became an infinite number of universes, and then this happened so that there was only one universe again from 1986 to 2006. Then this and this happened so that there were 52 universes again. Right now this is happening which deals directly with more multiversal upheavals. Do not get this. It has a lot to do with multiverses but it is pure crap, and can be safely ignored.

bah, you sent me to places; I was trying to encourage chatting :oldrazz:

Nothing really to chat about. B-Will explained it all. It's a pretty simple concept, and yet can be confusing as all hell.

Other examples of a Multiverse is a book from Marvel Comics called Exiles. Where a group of heroes are assemble from various points in the Multiverse to fix broken realities. I.E. realities that have gone off in a completely different direction than what they were intended to due to some unknown phenomenon. (You find out eventually, but you know, mysterious from the begining.)

Very good book.

Then you got all those Elseworlds from DC. Kingdom Come, Gotham by Gas Light or whatever the name of that book is. JSA Liberty files was awesome. Alternate universe where heroes are different from what you normally see. In one world Batman's a Vampire. In another, Superman landed in the Soviet Union. Stuff like that.

Andre Norton in her books Quest Crosstime and the Crossroads of Time described parallel worlds as being sideways in time rather than backwards or forwards.
