Rank the Tim Burton's movies?

I agree in a sort of way but the thing is, Sweeney Todd is a masterpiece because of Sondheim not because of Burton. If you specifically take away Sondheim's music you're but left with Johnny Depp and Tim Burton's nice designs.

It's like saying Thriller is John Landis' masterpiece.

Well, it's still his adaption of Sondheim. The original Broadway production belongs to Sondheim.

I mean, the 2007 Hairspray is Adam Shankman's greatest film achievement, but that's based on a stage musical based on a John Waters film. In that case I could argue that Shankman's Hairspray is a great John Waters film.

I have not seen Corpse Bride yet though.

It's the same as Nightmare Before Christmas but with a less compelling story, less attractive characters and songs that are, again, very much the same but not that inspired.

El Pay, you don't like Beetljuice :wow:

I like the good parts. But the main characters (Baldwin and Davis) are terribly bland and the story drags a lot.

Top Five:

1) Ed Wood
2) Big Fish
3) Edward Scissorhands
4) Beetlejuice
5) Batman Returns

Ed Wood
Batman
Big Fish
Sleepy Hollow
Edward Scissorhands

Beetlejuice is only watchable because of Michael Keaton. Everything else was bland to me.

I'm a huge Burton fan and his movies are pretty close to me, so this is going to be ever-so slightly biased. But here are my honest ratings:
-Pee-wee's Big Adventure - 8/10
-Beetlejuice - 8/10
-Batman - 7/10
-Edward Scissorhands - 10/10
-Batman Returns - 9/10
-The Nightmare Before Christmas - 10/10
-Ed Wood - 9/10
-Mars Attacks! - 6/10
-Sleepy Hollow - 6/10
-Planet of the Apes - 4/10
-Big Fish - 10/10
-Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - 7/10
-Corpse Bride - 6/10
-Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - 9/10
-Alice in Wonderland - 4/10

I've seen them all but top five would be:

Ed Wood (his masterpiece)
Batman Returns
Edward Scissorhands
Big Fish
The Nightmare Before Christmas

I like everything except the GARBAGE that is Alice in Wonderland.

Also, Nightmare shouldnt count. He didnt direct it. Only wrote it.

Burton is my favorite director, always has been, and the only film of his I haven't liked is Planet of the Apes - and even that isn't a complete failure, because Tim Roth and Helena Bonham Carter are actually good in it, and the moment with General Thade learning how to carry a gun is really chilling and well executed.

1. Ed Wood, 10/10
2. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, 10/10
3. Edward Scissorhands, 10/10
4. Batman Returns, 10/10
5. Beetlejuice, 10/10
6. Big Fish, 9/10
7. Corpse Bride, 9/10
8. Batman, 8.5/10
9. Mars Attacks! 8/10
10. Alice in Wonderland, 8/10
11. Sleepy Hollow, 8/10
12. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, 8/10
13. Pee-wee's Big Adventure, 7/10
14. Planet of the Apes, 4/10

Yes, there are more than a few 10s there, because I rate a movie based on how well I think it succeeds with what it's trying to do, and I think most of these are really successful. There's no such thing as perfect, really. I would give The Nightmare Before Christmas a 10/10 as well, and if it were on this list, I'd put it at #1.

ever since Mars Attacks his films have gotten progressively worse...
I know when Ed Wood was released it did very poorly and that hit hard with him, and he was coming off that Batman Films where they basically told him to not make anymore...
I think that effected him A LOT.

I watched behind the scenes footage of him back on Batman and he looks calm and collected...ever since Mars Attacks he seems very erratic..

1) Ed Wood: 10/10
2) Big Fish: 9.5/10
3) Pee-Wee's Big Adventure: 9/10
4) BeetlejuiceL 7/10
5) Edward Scissorhands: 7/10
6) Batman: 6.5/10

The rest I rate at 6/10 or less
