It wasn't my fancast, so don't have much room on say, and I know Diane is meant to be a high-school girl, but Maisie still looks younger than her age of 18, and would look a bit odd next to Jack O'Connell as Renton.

Kelly MacDonald was 20 when she played Diane and Maisie Williams is 19.

It's more about how old she looks, there had to be that element of surprise of finding out she was still at school, because Kelly MacDonald's character look like she was easily been in her 20's when she's in the club, and not a schoolgirl.
