Okay I've heard tales of this thing and just now it occurred. It's under Warranty with XBox and I do have it under warranty with my store. So I'll probably persue that route.

The strange thing is this. It went red. I turned it off and 5 minutes later it worked.

WTF hax? Should I cut out the middle man and get a new one or what?

I say just hang onto it for a few more weeks until the Falcon model is introduced. Those don't have the design flaws apparently.

Does the 360 Elite have the same design flaws?

Also can you link me to a site with more info on the Falcon?

All I know for sure is that the Falcon model will be released "This Autumn" which isn't much longer. In terms of console appearance, the only thing I know of right now that will make the Falcon models stand out is that they have an HDMI port, like this:

So if you get one like that, it should be just fine. Apparently Microsoft has been fixing this problem since May, but depending on which factory they were manufactured in, they may still have the design flaw.

The Falcon has both a reworked design AND cooler-running chips so it should have no problems what-so-ever.

I wish I had some better info to give you, like "Falcon Xbox360s will come in red boxes" but there's just no info like that right now.

However Microsoft has been working on this problem for a long time now (they really don't want to lose more than that $ Billion) so the worst is behind them. If you get a new console nowadays it's all but guaranteed to be working. If you send it in to Microsoft they'll damn-sure not send you back one with the design flaw. That's just a future waste of money for them.

I read up on the Falcon. It has the better heat sink and a smaller CPU. Truth be told, as far as I've gathered all of the Elites have the better heat sink and I wouldn't mind a black X-Box.

Depending what time I get back from classes today, I'll either wait it out or just crack and get the elite.

The new Premium Xboxs have HDMI ports and the Elite's motherboard, just FYI.

Are you talking about buying a new X-Box? Why would you do that? Microsoft will replace your X-Box for free, it takes about two weeks. Save the $400.

Had my dad pay for the repairs twice since he uses it for his hd-dvd's, and I kept the reimbursement checks that come back in my name

This happened to me once. It gave my the deathly lights and I freaked out. I turned it off and let it sit for a while. When I tried to turn it back on...nothing.

I pressed the freaking power button and nothing would happen. After fighting the tears :-)csad:) I unplugged everything and went to work. Got home and tried it again and it's worked fined ever since??

Also I have a launch console.

I got the red ring of death today. :007 :exp: Finally after seven years on a console that was bought at launch. In the middle of Max Payne 3.

I'm not doing the towel trick, thank you. Losing an X-Box sucks, but having my apartment burn down would suck significantly more.

And I can't send it to Microsoft, since I'm currently working and living in Korea (I had it set up to a transformer, which is probably what caused it to crash).

Anything I can do besides those two things?

I've had the red ring a few times on my current machine, usually I leave it a few hours and it comes on as usual but with a message telling me to keep the xbox well ventilated, etc. I think it cuts out now when it red rings before it actually damages the console.

Do the towel trick at a hotel or a friend's house.

Lol... Some friend I'd be. "Hey uh, I don't wanna do the towel trick at my house, because I'm scared I'll burn it down. So can I do it at your house and potentially burn it down instead? That cool?"

Somehow I don't see him going for that. ;)

If you put it in his bathtub, the fire (should there be one) would never spread. You'd be fine.

But seriously, if you have the RROD, can't you call Microsoft and they'll replace it for free +free month XBL?

You've had yours since launch and it just now shut now? That's impressive. From what I've seen, most of the old ones usually lasted around 2-3 years. Hell I first got one months after launch and then about over a year later it started acting up on me and I got a new one and then last year 99.9% of the time it wouldn't read the discs. I'm currently on my third 360.

The Towel Trick DOES indeed work, but only for a short time, 30 minutes or so and then those rings will be right back.

What i did, was i used the towel trick to get the system working, then took it to my local Gamestop and traded it in as a working system. They were none the wiser.

I think you might just be SOL man. Might have to go get you one of those new snazzy 360's. You can get em on the cheap now.
