Refn wants to direct spy movie set in Tokyo - The Avenging Silence

I liked Neon Demon enough, but damn, this sounds so ****ing good.

I hope it's more like Drive, Pusher, Bronson, and Valhalla Rising than Only God Forgives. Just make it straight forward but minimalistic.

I actually liked The Neon Demon - I think if OGF never came out, then Neon would've gotten better reviews. Demon felt like a compromise between his usual work and OGF, and some folks still didn't like that.

It does sound cool but what is Refn's obsession with main characters who don't talk?

There's times where I think Refn is an artist where his craziness has a reason behind it and other times I feel like he's just pretentious. I love Drive, liked Bronson, did not like Valhalla Rising. I don't have much of an interest in Only God Forgives.

With TND I was surpriginly liking it more than I thought, then the last ten minutes happened and it lost me.

I didn't mind them eating her and bathing in her blood. It made sense. But the whole thing afterwards with throwing up the eyeball I failed to grasp.

Either way, I love that Refn is just doing this thing, even when he stumbles. He's still of one of the most original voices in the industry.

That is true. I just wish he made great movies that I could keep getting invested in like Drive. In a way, I think the studio system and it being more commercial helped balance him out more.

Yeah I felt pretty much the same way. Drive is one of my favorite films and Bronson features one of my all time favorite lead performances, but the other two films were unbearable. VH bored the sh** out of me and OGF was so unintentionally funny I felt embarrassed for Refn. Soundtrack was great though.

Still need to see The Neon Demon.

If anything, Drive is the outlier in his work. Only God Forgives is not too far off from Valhalla Rising.
