Resurrecting dead actors via CGI?

There has to be a good reason for it. I.e. The actor died during filming and they use CGI to fill in the gaps for the remaining scenes or it's a short cameo. Other than that write them out or recast.

Now that Carrie Fisher is dead, will Princess Leia be CGI in Episode VIII?

i liked that ad with Charlize Theron & cgi marilyn monroe, grace kelly and marlene dietrich (she kinda looks like madonna)

She filmed all her scenes for the film. It will be her last complete role. :(
I take solace out of the fact she managed to reprise her iconic role again, twice, before the end. Really looking forward to seeing her performance next year. :csad:

That advert is pretty well done. I think Madonna had some Marlene Dietrich influences. And she certainly spoke about her on her song "Vogue".

As good as Peter Cushing looked, I would personally love to see them take a crack at Donald Pleasence and have him return as Dr. Loomis in a future Halloween film...

I wasn't aware that they were that I into filming. Glad to know her scenes have all been shot and are in the proverbial can. But since we don't know if her character survives Episode VIII, it's still possible that they may CG her for Episode IX.

Although, to make it less creepy, and maybe more realistic looking, they could make all communication with Princess Leia done via holographic transmission. For example, she could be talking to Rey and Chewbacca early in Episode IX, when her ship is attacked by her son and destroyed. All hands are lost, including Leia, and we won't have to worry about a CG Leia popping up later in the film.
