Revealed: why slim people dislike the overweight

"Instead of soda and snacks, school vending machines will dispense shame." XD

"Funding "peer presure" systems in public schools, in which thinner kids encourage their heftier classmates to lose weight through verbal persuasion."

Awesome:woot:

I don't like to laugh at other's misfortunes, but even the jolliest amongst us would find humor in that pic.

This article should be a bit outdated, its more on the lines of "overweight people dislike skinny people" these days. Thin people are a minority.

There is a percentage of people that can't, or can't with out drugs lose weight. Those that have no insurance and can't afford to have their glandular disorders treated (me) have to work as hard as a lot of athletic, in shape people just to keep from getting bigger. I could choose to not eat at all (unhealthy), or excercise more than 3 days a week (unrealistic) or accept being fat and love themselves for who they are. I accept responsibility for my own choices, and I don't care that there are people that will make comments. I choose a life style that is comfortable for me, and maybe I don't have the discipline to lose more weight...I admit it's hard for me to watch my friends and family with high metabolic rates eat and eat with no consequences. The stereotype of fat people that do nothing but sit around and eat junk food exists for a reason, but it's not representative of all fat people, and your attitude is indicative of you over simplifying the problem in your mind.

Why is exercising more than three days a week unrealistic?

I think its a problem of motivation and having low self-esteem. when people have low-self esteem about how they look, the gym or the beach would be the last place they would want to be at.

That's true for a lot of people, but sitting their and wallowing in misery isn't by any means helping the situation. Being self conscious should be motivation enough to go out there and better their situation. I can't speak for other people but when I see fat people at the gym, I'm happy for them because at least they're trying to better themselves. Feeling sorry for yourself all the time is not an acceptable excuse.

Well...for one, my trainer suggests not doing intensive cardio-vascular excercise more than three times a week. I do walk everyday, but when I said excercise I meant go to the gym. Mainly it's unrealistic because I have a job in the film industry, a large immediate family (a wife, another wife, 4 kids, 4 cats, 2 dogs) and I am rather active in the local Pagan and Celtic Christian community.

How is going to the gym 3 times a week and eating a balanced, organic diet (which I have done for many, many years) wallowing in misery? I am very, very active, but I cannot EVER be thin. I will always be a larger person. My thyroid gland was mangled in surgery when I was very young.

why do they try and justify it?

it's very simple, an obese person cannot be healthy and if a person is obese is because of their bad eating habits, not to mention that being overweight carries a whole lot of problems, either physical, psychological, etc

instead of justifying themselves, fat people should just do something about what they put into their systems while eating

as simple as that

That's not always the case. Genetics are just as important as lifestyle. There are also a number of medications like antipsychotics that can cause weight gain. There is plenty of evidence to support that. I don't adovcate these things as blanket excuses for the obese but I don't just assume that when I see an overweight person, it's automatically because of an irresponsible lifestyle.

I believe you. I've never been able to achieve any level of definition despite spend 8 hours a week in the gym doing weights & cardio. Yet I keep going because I know that if I stopped, even maintaining my healthy lifestyle, I would blow up like a baloon.
But,cheer up Jake, it could be worse. You could be built like Topher Grace.=O

"Funding "peer presure" systems in public schools, in which thinner kids encourage their heftier classmates to lose weight through verbal persuasion."

That's no joke. sure kids are cruel and love to abuse each other at school every single miserable school day, but maybe it's all coming from the goodness of their hearts in the end since they want to save the fat kid's lives.

You all do know death is inevitable right? I mean you can work out all you want. Eat as healthy as you want, but at the end of the day. All you are doing is insureing you look great in your coffin.

LOL! True wisdom there. All 4 of my grandparents, all overweight, lived into their 80s but I've seen some fellow gym members with 6 pack abs drop dead at before hitting the golden years. I'm a proponent of healthy living but tommorrow isn't granted to the healthy people either.

That's to me no excuse for the rampant rise in obesity. It's just lazyness to me... like saying since we're gonna die, nothing's worth doing at all.

Is that called nihilism?

Well anyway, my dad was in the army so I've always aspired to be like that, tough, hardcore and stuff like that, so I've never been fat. I honestly assumed fats were just lazy but I guess it's glandluar.

I wasn't directing those comments at YOU, specifically. I was speaking generally, so if it doesn't apply to you don't worry about it. I'm simply asking why you think it's unrealistic to exercise more than three times a week.

At the same time, there is also something to be said for quality of life. I don't think that having never touched drugs, alcohol or tobacco in my life is going to make me immortal but it give me many other benefits. Living healthy, which goes beyond just being at a target weight, has many other benefits too other than *likely* extending your life.

It's just old fashioned common sense to me. Don't do stuff that'll cause yourself harm. So I don't get any of it. Why do people drink, smoke, etc, when they know it can be harmful to them? I can understand ignorance being a factor especially before we all knew smoking caused cancer, but nowadays, it's just suicide.

Enjoy it while it lasts. The majority of people's metabolisms slow down when they start getting into their mid-thirties. There are things you can do to keep it ramped up like proper exercise and diet, but it's still not going to be like it was when you were in your teens and twenties.
