thats why i am saying that the movie only works because of Lithgow and Caesar. everything around them is a normal Fox movie with a short running time and deleted scenes.
Every movie has deleted scenes.

Apes works perfectly as 105 minute movie, the pace is excellent and it never feels rushed. Not every movie needs to be 2+ hours.

For what its worth, the only Ape movies longer than this one are the original and Burton's remake, and neither of those are over 2 hours. All the older sequels are ~90 minutes

I don't know why people say comments like these. They're just dumb. Clearly the movie works because of ceaser, he is the main charcter and the entire plot revolves around him.

If you take Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader out of Star Wars you have a terrible movie, if you take out the joker from the dark knight you have a lame film, etc.... so whats your point?

i wonder why they cut the shot of the gorilla escaping. i was looking forward to that. maybe its just me but i could watch gorillas doing awesome feats of strength for a whole movie, no plot just gorillas being beasts.

Agreed,That's the way it's suppose to be since the focus have always been on the apes/their history and lives,Taylor was the biggest human character in the series&Burton's But even in the original it was mostly all about the apes!!!

This film was always designed to be the Rise of Caesar,Perhaps humans will get better attention in the sequel since they will likely be showing the death of most of the human population&the apes completely taking over.....Which will still likely focus on Caesar's life from this film to the next and it should be that!!!

I love the film,But any news on a possible extended/director's cut dvd&blu-ray?I wanted more&more!

and looking at that one shot, makes me wonder if there could have been a Caesar love story subplot. maybe they will make a James Cameron like announcment about how in the extended edition you get to see how the apes mate lol

Armond White liked this movie.
It's also a currupt summer. :awesome:

I don't know much about him But is he the biggest hating critic or what??(some people often mention him in other movie threads)I don't think it matters IF he liked it or not anyway though!

How is this a corrupt summer?

Sequels To Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes: Director Rupert Wyatt’s Ideas

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/08...net-of-the-apes-director-rupert-wyatts-ideas/

“There’s so much we could do… The ideas I’ve had are all sorts of things, ranging from Full Metal Jacket with apes… you could start this story again eight years from where we left off, the next generation of apes, those that have come from our protagonists, perhaps going in to a conflict with humans and showing real fear, in the same way as going into war for young soldiers in this day and age, telling their story. Or how apes are taking over cities, and being moved into human environments and having to interact with them and deal with things that are part of our culture and understand and evolve through them. Spies that are in the employ of the apes, working against humans and humans maybe existing underground, because that’s a way they can avoid the virus, coming up above ground wearing gas masks, and maybe that’s what dehumanises them.”

I didn't say you were dumb (I don't know you), I said comments like that are dumb. :yay:

Anyhow, am I the only one against the idea of a sequel? I think the ending was fitting and we obviously know what happens next.

8,/10, Loved the movie. I was excepting much based on the trailer. But it was really good.

It was "on like donkey kong" from then on. My theater gave a huge reaction to that. especially all the spears going through the truck.

One of my favorite shots was Ceasar overlooking the city from the park tree for the first time.

Two of my favorite shots:

-When Caesar, Maurice and that other ape are standing together on the trolley

-Caesar riding the horse on the bridge

I am sure you are not the only one, but you are definitely in a minoroty. They set up some wonderful characters and the potential for an amazing series of films is there so why not. The originals were limited by their budgets and lack of technology. These wont be so its time to make the planet of the apes the way it always should have been. This isn't a knock against the originals, but they were limited. In the original novel the apes lived in cities, drove cars, and were sending probes into space. Due to budgetary reasons they scaled the ape society back and made them more primitive looking. I want to see the ape society in all it glory. Given what the story is about it deserves to be told in a grand way. As long as they don't turn the sequels into Michael Bay action fests and keep the strong characterization and heart I say make a new series.

One thing has to happen in a potential sequel is that Caesar has to die, currently as it stands he's got too much affection for humans, the only way the apes truly begin to hate humans is if he's killed, possibly at the hands of his own kind. As long as he's alive he's going to be a voice for humans due to his upbringing.

Yeah this movie was really about the apes getting smarter then escaping. We still need to see how the apes take over society and establish rule which I feel could be interesting because of the conflicting ideals of the apes. Something the original explored.

I really don't want Full Metal Jacket with apes.

I'd like to see this set of films become it's own entity and perhaps follow a different path.

Given his actions, and his very name I believe similarities can be made between him and Julius Caesar. I have a feeling when he dies it will be at the hands of those who would pretend to be his friends. His death will probably be a betrayal. He will probably be to lenient on humans and some ape will think him weak and kill him. Seeing him die is gonna suck.

I really wanted to see more when this movie was done, I haven't seen a movie that made me want that in a long time lol. I watched the original 68 version today but it just wasn't the same. I mean it's good, but the ending only works if you've never seen it before nor know what happens. I REALLY wanna see a sequel with the astronauts done by this same creative team.

There were SO many nods to previous films and Apelore. To me, unlike Star Trek, this film totally worked. I really enjoyed it, and look forward to possible sequels.
I really hope they take their time and do it right and dont just rush a film out to capitalize on this films success. A Apes franchise has so much potential - if they handle it with care.

Also, to comment on some stuff Ive read, not here, but elsewhere, Muir Woods makes perfect sense for a hiding place as anyone whos been there can tell you. The place is miles and miles of HUGE redwoods.
