That said, yes this film feels more like a reboot.

And as an old-time fan of the originals, I am very happy to see this acceptance of this film in a big way by a new generation!

Agreed!

The two things I didn't like about this movie was the girl, she didn't seem to have any point in the movie other than filling in the love interest quota. The ending seems abit too happy for my liking. I was hoping for something more along the lines of Conquest of the Planet Of The Apes which had a much darker ending.

Is the ending really all that happy considering the mid credits scene?

hmm... I suppose it wasn't an accident that the black fellow was the corporate villain in this. hmmm... in his final moments, I was reminded of the final scenes from Conquest of the Planet of the Apes..

from wiki:

MacDonald...appeals to Caesar to show mercy to his former persecutor...
I also see that one of the gorillas is named 'Buck'. um..

The lady veterinarian is hot , but i'd never heard of her. anyone else familiar with her?

..I wonder how much humanity will be decimated by the next film; and will Rodman be around to see what he has wrought?

I quite liked it I really wasn't expecting this to be good but from the reviews I snuck into see this one and the CGI apes or however they pulled them off was fantastic.

At the end post credit scene when the pilot is coughing up blood I'm assuming that's the virus that ends up wiping all of humanity

I really hope they don't put Taylor in these new movies.

I think I agree. I'm a huge fan of the original, but part of the power of that film is the mystery aspect. Not sure how that will work now that we are seeing everything from this perspective.

Finally saw this over the weekend and I was blown away. I really wasn't expecting a whole lot, but I came away loving this movie. I was surprised at how good of a movie this was since I was just expecting a summer popcorn movie.

There were so many times I actually forgot I wasn't watching actually chimps and apes. I really can't wait for some sequels.

I don't think they will if they go by original continuity. I do hope we see more talking apes in the sequel though. I'm curious what Koba and Maurice would act and sound like after further exposure to the virus.

Finally watched it today.I Really loved it.9/10 second best ape movie after the Original.I want more though.

Maybe they won't seeing as how it will be many years till the human race has deteriorated enough for the apes to take over, at least that's what my thoughts are by following the original POTA continuity.

And at this point Taylor wouldn't of been born yet.

The movie shows the Icarus taking off and later reported as missing. Why wouldn't Taylor be born yet?

The movie discusses the loss of Icarus - so with that in mind, Taylor would have no place in future movies because theoretically, he is lost in the future and subsequently dies in the (original) second movie.

I'd also like to see Koba speak in future movies - that monkey freakin' scared me!

Unless of course they decide to make the "future jump" only 20 or 30 years. Then all the apes in this film could still be alive, and it would be long enough for the human race to collapse via the virus.

That's in the original series of films, though, which this isn't...this version of Caesar is NOT the son of two apes who came from Earth's future who was raised by a kindly circus owner, nor were the apes in this movie being used as slave labor (although their situation was still just as bad) when Caesar rallied them. I tend to look at it like the new Trek timeline: the names and places may be familiar, but in this case the writers are free to do whatever the heck they want because they AREN'T anchored what came before (hence the purpose of it being a reboot/remake/whatever)...the only thing that I think would really stop them from using Taylor would be the desire to NOT want to just go back to straight-up rehashing of the original films.

What I DO hope for, though, is that they sit on the time-travel for the time being and just explore what happens next.

They mentioned the Icarus, they didn't have to at all, but they did; therefore the timeline that takes us into the first film, is intact. The only way they can justify an alternate string of events than the first Apes film, is some sort of timeline alteration via time travel, just like the Star Trek re-boot; as far as we know the events of 'rises' is no different from what lead into Hestons first Apes film. Unless it's revealled later on in a sequel that the rise of Caesars was 'caused by a future time traveler going back and changing something, then we have to take the current timeline as it stands.

I think it is very much open on whether this is the original series' timeline or not, and I don't really have a preference. What I do hope for, though, is that they continue exploring the "rise" more in another sequel or two. I really left this movie wanting more. They did a great job of selling the story and creating anticipation for more.

I finally got to see this earlier today! Absolutely LOVED it!

No...they could easily just say this is a reboot and go on with their own version of the story. There is no need to try and add in some sort of alternate reality explanation.

And this timeline has already differed from the previous series, since in the old films, Caesar was the son of two apes from the future, which he obviously was not in this one.

I can't remember the original. Is Ceaser in it? Is the nasty scarred one in it? I think I remember the nasty one from the rubbish Marky Mark remake.
