Got it for Christmas. Can't wait to get home and watch it!!!

I got the entire box set of all the old movies for Christmas! I remember the original and 'beneath' but not the others.

Speaking of 'Beaneath the Planet of the Apes', i'm wondering if they show the search party that went after the Icarus, in the upcoming sequel to 'Rise'.

Any chance someone here can make an GIF out of a particular scene in the movie:
the Shocked Gorilla when he hears Caesar speak

I've seen all of the originals a dozen or more times each over the years....but unfortuantly haven't got around to watching RISE yet.

Well, you're in for a real treat with 'Rise'.

Rise is a great comeback to the series and it can branch out into their own mythos if they ever wanted to.

I'll have to get it sometime soon....I already have all the other movies, the live action series, and the animated series.....:woot:

anyone else notice that on the tv it said the Icarus shuttle had gone missing

this just a nod to the original or will it play a part in future sequels?

I might have to pick up that box set of the old movies. Recently one of the cable channels was running a marathon of those and I got suckered in watching them. It had been YEARS since a last saw any of them. Watched the Original, Beneath and Escape. I've got the other two on the DVR waiting for a chance to get back to them.

I'm also waiting for an opportunity to see Rise again. Saw it in the theater and have the DVD, just waiting for some free time.

I think it was just a nod to the original, paying tribute but also doing there own thing at the same time. I highly doubt we dive deeper in the sequel about the ship missing, maybe get some shots of the rescue crew on a tv in the back like this. Thats why I loved this movie, they paid homage to the originals but not in a way where it poked you in the face. Im curious too how they play out the virus.

I also don't think we'll see much of the space mission in the sequel, seemed like more of just a nod to the original. I think the sequel will show us the Apes coming into power which I'm looking forward to seeing.

I think in the sequel they should only speak english when talking to humans...but to each other it's more about movement and growls.

I think for the sequel only ceaser should be able to talk, it makes sense since he was born with the medicine and his brain was advanced right from birth but the other apes just got an overnight dose. so If the sequel takes place a short time after the this one then make ceaser the only one that can talk but if its 20 years later then the other apes can talk.

Same here.

I recently watched all Ape movies and i am still shocked about what i saw and wanted to share.

What's funny is that i had never watched the old movies before, only the Tim Burton flick years ago, and i always thought of them as a campy series full of the American typical hero sh*** that saves the day in the end and everyone is cheering happily.

What i discovered with those films is that they are full of depressing moments, drama and they got some balls. They are an amazing social commentary to the racist and militaristic society we have today, just like the Romero's Zombie flicks.

Just when i thought the ending in the first one was shocking, in the second the mutated tele pathetic humans torture the hero and in the end a nuclear bomb goes off. And as if those weren't brutal enough, in the 3rd one Cornelius and Zira die in cold blood like dogs.

Finally seeing the Rise also, i must say this is one of the most deeply thought provoking and serious franchises ever. Can't wait to see where they will go with the sequel next.

That is a great post.
I'm glad to hear someone has discovered and appreciates this series. I grew up watching these movies on TV and loving them. The original came out in '68 I think, a very socially turbulent year. And with Rod Serling of Twilight Zone writing the screenplay, it was his typical use of sci-fi and fantasy to make strong social commentary. That was at the heart of all the original films and what made them special. I ignore Burton's flop because it had none of that. He sucked the heart out of the series.
But Rise restored it. It revived a classic series from the brink and got that heart beating once more. If they keep this quality, I am really excited for the chapters to come.

I have to admit, my memories of the original series was cheesy, campy fun as well. While watching the first three in the series recently, I was also surprised at how shocking and brutal the endings really were. The only ending I really remembered was from the first/original.

I got this on Christmas and thought it was pretty good. I hope the sequel shows a war between the humans and apes. They should have some kind of civil war between the apes to. One side lead by Caesar and the other lead by Koba.

Just watched it for the first time. Excellent, of course. Andy Serkis easily out-performed everyone else.

I hope the sequel works out, and sort of follows/retells Battle, since this was basically a retelling of Conquest.

I seriously doubt that in the ensuing plague anyone's really going to care about the Icarus.

I hope it goes in some very different directions from Battle as that movie is terrible.
