Robert Downey Jr. Is Doom

I think it's hilarious that he did one prestige film, campaigned the hell out of it, earned and Oscar and went right back to Marvel money. Respect. :funny:

What if 616's Tony Stark was a Doom variant? The one who turned out good.

I'm actually taking the Russos' word for it that he'll be Victor. My guess is that he wont be a Stark variant and they'll just explain the resemblance as being just a quirk of the multiverse. They'll without a doubt use the identical physical appearance to score drama points with the 616 characters though.

I think out of the available options, 616 Stark being a Doom variant is better than Downey's Doom being a Stark variant. Still not something I actually want, but it's the least bad idea that I've heard suggested.

They do know it's just going to make it extremely harder for people to buy Doom as his own character and have the Tony Stark image constantly over him like a pestering shadow, right? Even if it's only for a Disney ride.

I'm so glad Doom continues to be butchered like this!

Idk if were real suppose to see his Doom as him playing a completely different person
(in terms of us not recognizing him) Doom may still be different persona

I mean, the fact that he looks like Tony is most likely going to be part of the plot point, tho, right?
(how/why he looks like Tony is the bigger question)

but, you don't bring back RDJ to not be recognized and not show his face
(at some point there will be that reveal moment where someone will see him and be like "Tony???" and Doom will look back saying "No, Doom")

I kinda just wish they didn't announce it ahead of time, and kept it as a secret reveal

instead of it being used as this cheap marketing ploy

Agree with most, if they use the demon in an amour storyline that still sucks and was a What If, best we can hop for is the accident he has smashes his face up good. But then again the whole point of having the tiny scar then covering it with a metal mask was to show his egotism, narcissism.

Demon in an amour, they switch bodies so technically everyone views him as Victor

I wonder if Feige genuinely thought this choice would be well received by the fans.

Susan and I were sitting down with Feige at one point and he said, 'It just keeps occurring to me that if you were to come back...' and Susan was like, 'Wait, wait, come back as what?' Then we both realised over time that it was another thing that just disproves any doubt anyone could ever have about that guy, a very sophisticated creative thinker, about how can we not go backwards, how can we not disappoint expectations, how we can continue to beat expectations? And he brought up Victor Von Doom. I looked up this character and I was like, 'Wow.' Later, Kevin goes, 'Let’s get Victor Von Doom right. Let's get that right.'

Damn you, Feige!

"Michael Keaton can't play Batman! He's Mr. Mom!"

"Heath Ledger can't play The Joker! He's a pretty boy who played a gay cowboy!"

This is why I take all the salt regarding RDJ playing Doom with more than a grain of salt.

The first reactions were pretty polarized , at best .

Now , I feel like as time has worn on , the tide is mostly negative to "let's wait and see".

But few, if any, are doubting RDJ's acting prowess or questioning whether he could do it based on past roles. We know the man is talented and could easily give a good performance, no matter if people don't like the casting decision.

It's more why was this baffling decision made in the first place?

Right, I think some people are confusing the criticism as RDJ can't act the role. I have no doubts in RDJ's abilities to play Dr. Doom. My issues are with the decision making behind the scenes that led to this happening.

I've been a fan of RDJ's acting going back to Chaplin in the early 90s, so I certainly don't question his acting .

I just don't like the idea of bringing him back as Dr. Doom .
