This year is the 30th anniversary to one of the best Sci-fi/action films ever made and one of my all time favorite movies.

I first saw this in theaters when i was 6 years old with my mom and dad at one of my city's theaters and thought it rocked. I even had a few of the toys, cards, comics and watched the animated show.

Even own the 2014 blu-ray and Laserdisc from Criterion plus it's such an influential work of satire that it's lightning in a bottle.

I was gonna wait until July and set up a 30th anniversary thread then. That's that f***ed.

Who the hell let you in at 6 to see this ? Cinema regulatory oversight slightly....

Robocop is in my all time top ten.

So quotable with iconic visuals, scenes, music, etc.

Back in the 80s you could see anything with adult supervision. I saw it at age 7 myself. Robocop and Predator were the big hits in the schoolyard in 1987.

You could tell who had cool parents by which kids knew about Predator.

It's very much a product of American society at that time too. Urban crime was rising, and was made out to the big boogey man of the late 80s and early 90s. We were going to see historic crime waves and mass chaos in our big cities. Movies like this and Predator 2 highlighted that fear.

I believe we need the theme song posted. :awesome:

One of my favorite movies ever made. We'll definitely be doing a retrospective episode on my podcast.

probably also in my top 10 of 80s movies.

also, the robocop soundtrack theme. it is one of the best. and will live on forever!

the movie works on so many different layers.

an action movie. a sci-fi movie. a social-political allegory. and social satire.

Robocop is one of my all-time favorite sci-fi films, it's only behind The Matrix, The Terminator and Blade Runner. Absolute classic. And perhaps in my top 10 overall.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

Robocop is a damn classic.

Absolutely a childhood favourite, and holds up to this day.

Favorite of mine when I was a kid and still is to this day. A sci-fi classic.

I enjoyed the first movie. The other two? Not so much.

Brilliant masterpiece. To commemorate the 30th aniversary theres a huge documentary with just about everyone involved in all three movies coming up late this year called RoboDoc, as well as Shout factory special editions of R2 and R3

Mate it was the 80's and even in the 90's you could get away with such things. :awesome:

You can still get away with that now. A parent or guardian can legally take a 6 year old to an R-rated movie.

Awesome, I didn't know that.

I heard about this. For whatever reason RoboCop himself didn't want to be apart of the doc. It's his most iconic role, which also boosted his career. It's a shame b/c I would love to hear Weller's thoughts about RoboCop 2. I also heard that the late Miguel Ferrer wanted to participate in the doc but couldn't b/c of his illness unfortunately.

Weller's not going to do it? That's frustrating. Like the fantastic docs on the B'89 and BR special editions-- A bunch of great new interviews with all key cast and crew... Except for Michael Keaton. Not a deal breaker, but still.

Yeah the makers of the RoboDoc mentioned on their facebook page that they're using archived footage of Weller from previous interviews regarding Robo 1 & 2 instead. Similar to how the makers of the B89 and BR docs (from the special edition dvds) did with Keaton. Sad thing before finalizing the doc the makers even held out for Weller in case he changed his mind.
