How are there only 21 votes in the poll?

I gave Creed an 8/10, which apparently qualifies me aa the top Creed skeptic on the forum.

I really enjoyed this movie. Stallone was incredibly on point as Rocky, and I loved every part with his character. Adonis wasn't as like-able in his first outing as Rocky was in his first film, but I definitely understand why. Unfortunately, that fact kept me from getting as emotionally invested in his character as I did with Rocky.

Still, there was some great stuff here. I loved the parallel of Rocky and Adonis fighting their own battles, and that ending fight was fantastic. I was getting chills the whole time.
Oh and that looooong take in the middle of the movie was very impressive. Great job by all the actors involved in that scene.

I'd give this movie somewhere between 8.5/10-9/10

I saw the movie opening day and came out of it completely indifferent to the whole thing. It wasn't bad nor good, just meh. The whole Rocky finding out half way through the film that has
cancer
felt like a cliché I've seen a thousand times in film to create conflict. Adonis
doing the Rocky montage had no impact because he ran up a street for 30 seconds and then stopped out front of Rocky's house throwing his hands in the air like he achieved something lol. So cringe worthy
. I also find it hilarious that
Rocky says Apollo won their third fight considering by that point Apollo was not fighting and hadn't fought in years and Rocky proved he was the better fighter
it felt to me that it was only made that way because the movie was about the creed family so they had to make Apollo look like the hero. I also did not care for the rap music scattered throughout. I don't understand why African Americans feel the need to be a cliché. Rap isn't the only music an African American can like. I also don't buy why Adonis was so cut about
Rocky being sick
when up till a month or whatever is was ago he had never even met the guy. It felt rushed. Nowhere in this movie did I see an award nomination performance from stallone. I thought his performance in Balboa was 10 times better. The speech he gave to his son alone was better than anything I saw in Creed. I could go on but I feel I've given more than my two cents.

6/10

Um not only is there other music besides rap throughout the movie, Adonis himself likes Bianca's music which isn't rap. Terrible criticism.

Wasn't a criticism it was my opinion chief. I'm not disrespecting anyone else's thoughts on the film as you have mine. So I'd appreciate a civil response. Thankyou

Lol your opinion is obviously a criticism in this case. I'm pointing out how flawed and terrible it is. There's nothing hostile about my response.

But I wonder why Apollo Creed's other children weren't mentioned or why they weren't in the film?

I thought about this, too. Would've been nice to see them explore this side as it pertains to the Creed family. The PTI scene was a very nice addition and was the only part of the movie that verbally mentioned it.

So if I did my math right, this movie takes place in 2010. The opening says it's 1998. Then when we see MBJ it says 12 years later. So Adonis is 25 which makes it more believable. And Duke's son is running Creed's old gym in LA.

It actually takes place this year. When they first show him in Mexico it says 2015. Then after that sequence it cuts to him in the office and says 12 hours later.

Plus they watch Skyfall back at Rocky's. So it's at least post-2012

Watched the movie for the 3rd time today. Plan on watching it again at least 1 more time.

I just saw this yesterday. The way they showed the progression of Rocky's chemo ... damn, that was the most memorable part of the movie for me. :(

But I wonder why Apollo Creed's other children weren't mentioned or why they weren't in the film?

Because the writers pulled the Adonis character out of their asses. Seriously, if they were going to go this route, Rocky should've been training his own kid.

Umm..never mind the fact that the throughout the Rocky series it became pretty clear that boxing wasn't in his blood. That was made especially clear after 'Rocky Balboa' that Robert hated living in his fathers shadow...with that in mind boxing would be the LAST THING he'd ever want to do.

Rock even mentions it in Creed that he tried when he was younger but he didn't take to it.

I saw this yesterday and wow, this was incredible. The second best film behind the original and it topped the last one too which is great and that used to be the second best in my book. The fights were probably the best in any Rocky film. Really well filmed.

I'm gonna be honest, I got kind of choked up a couple times. And that last scene. I almost lost it.

But Stallone deserves all the props he's getting for this performance. He just made me remember why I love Rocky in the first place and seeing him in this point in time really gets to me. Coogler deserves a lot for the directing and the writing himself and made something unthought of into gold.

Lets see here:

-In IV, Rocky makes it clear that he doesn't want his son to be a fighter. "I fight so that you don't have to fight."

-His brain damage would probably make him even less keen on the idea.

-In VI, it's made clear that Rocky's son has little to no interest in being a fighter and doesn't like living in his father's shadow, which is re-emphasized in this film.

-Rocky was reluctant to get back into the fight game AT ALL!

They went off what they had to work with. And what that was is that Rocky's one and only son has absolutely no interest in boxing (something established in Rocky Balboa, and reiterated in Creed).

And Apollo's other children (that we actually saw before) his death) would be too old to work in context here.

You mean they created a fictional character in a movie spun off from movies about other fictional characters??!!!!!? :wow:

So I was getting into a debate with a couple of people over exactly what to label this film. Some were calling it a sequel, some saying a spinoff, I came the conclusion this film doesn't fit either definition entirely and sits somewhere in the middle. Perhaps the best way to look at this is not as a sequel or a spinoff but rather a rebranding. Thoughts?

It's a sequel, the same way The Force Awakens is a sequel of Return of the Jedi. Continuity of time, characters and storylines. In a world of reboots and remakes, the simpler terms are the best. And "rebranding" is what you do to a chocolate bar.

Great film. It's nice to see MJB rebound so quickly from Fantastic Flop. Jordan was a great lead in this movie.

Rocky Balboa is easily one of the most likable characters in fiction. You really, really felt for him. I haven't felt this sympathetic towards an iconic character since Bruce Wayne in TDKR. I'm glad Sly is getting so much recognition for his performance. Just a year ago, this guy was starring in stuff like the expendables 3.

Can't really say Creed's opponents were as interesting as past Rocky antagonists, but Jordan and Stallone do such an excellent job at carrying the film, that it really doesn't matter too much.

The Cast and Crew really took the Rocky formula and made it fresh.

This was amazing, and brought many tears. The homages, nod, etc. were all beautifully done.

Can't recommend the direction/cinematography more. The fights were so wonderful and had such great flow, plus they felt real. That 'one take' fight was a marvel... wow.

Plus, everything with Rocky was nice. It was cool how fallible they made his 'legacy' by giving him cancer. It struck hard...

I feel the same way. Just got back from this and man, I'm ****ing amped up. I walked out of the theater feeling like I wanted to go right into the gym and start training myself.

As a huge Rocky fan, this was both gratifying and extremely satisfying. It's not a perfect film, but it was such a great and effective spin on the Rocky formula with some added layers and twists. The cast was superb and the fights were intense, making you feel as if you were in the ring with them.

9/10 from me. Also, Creed's girl was an awesome, super hot chick. I fell for her, too.

It's pretty obvious. Rocky was his mentor and father figure. He knew of Rocky before meeting him, knowing he and Apollo were opponents and friends. He clearly had a lot of respect for Rocky, otherwise he wouldn't have asked him to train him. They formed a bond over the time spent together, which I'm pretty sure was more than a month.

He never knew his father, and in Rocky he not only found one, but also someone who had a connection with Apollo. And if someone you look up to, respect, and see as your family, gets sick, especially diagnosed with cancer, you tend to care. At least I think you would.

Hmmm, all that happened to me was it made me want to start my own Italian restaurant. We must have been watching a different movie. ;)
