Search function doesn't seem to be working for me. Quick question, When and how did Rogue get fire powers?

I was in the comic shop yesterday and decided to get back into the X-men and picked up the last couple of issues.

Thanks

Rouge has fire powers? Damn, I have been falling behind in my reading.

She absorbed Sunfire's powers. I don't recall exactly when it happened, but from what I remember Sunfire got his ass handed to him by Deathstrike and wanted Rogue to absorb his powers so she could fight her. She had lost the powers she got from Ms. Marvel by this point.

From Wiki:
Powerless

For a time Rogue lost all of her powers, including her original mutant ones. During this period she displayed exceptional fighting skills and agility, though it was said these were not superhuman in nature.

She also still possessed a 'fluid genome' that enabled Sage to use her as a conduit through which to channel the mutant powers of the X-Treme X-Men team in a fight against Bogan.

Mutant powers return

Rogue's mutant abilities eventually returned during Chuck Austen's brief run on the "X-Men" title in 2004, but without any explanation as to how, why, or when they returned. However, she only regained her absorption ability, and lost her powers imprinted from Ms. Marvel as well as the ability to recall powers she's absorbed in the past.

Sunfire powers

In Rogue's short-lived ongoing series (2004-2005), Rogue absorbed a large portion of the mutant Sunfire's solar-absorption based powers. In addition to her own natural mutant abilities Rogue can now:

* Project intense heat and flame.
* Envelope her body in a fiery aura.
* Focus her power inward to increase her strength (though not at her Ms. Marvel levels).
* Exercise immunity to heat and radiation.
* See the infra-red spectrum.

But now Deathstrike, who was more machine than woman, was able to restore her memories the same way one would a hard drive. Deathstrike kidnapped Blindspot, who released a photo of Sunfire, Rogue and Mystique to attract their attention to save her. Though Mystique never came, Rogue joined Sunfire, whose reputation had been ruined by the photograph, in Tokyo to discover why they were framed and who was responsible.

The two ran into Lady Deathstrike, who in a heated battle cut off Sunfire's legs, leaving him in critical condition. Rogue surrendered to Deathstrike, who imprisoned the two. There, Rogue met Blindspot, who restored Rogue's memories and explained to her what was going on.

When Deathstrike discovered that the three were not actually responsible for stealing the adamantium, she went to kill them to destroy any evidence of what she had done. A weak Sunfire asked Rogue to absorb his powers so she could properly battle Deathstrike. Rogue had previously lost the powers of Carol Danvers that she had taken and was hesitant. She worried that she would harm Sunfire, but Blindspot pushed her on Sunfire's face, causing her to absorb all his powers and possibly killing him. With it, Rogue now also contained Sunfire's personality, similar to how she also once had Danvers' personality within her.

Sunfire's personality controlling her, Rogue went out to get revenge on Deathstrike, severely injuring the woman. The X-Men arrived in time to intervene, but Blindspot erased Rogue's memories of being an X-Man causing her to see her teammates as her enemies. After a brief altercation, Rogue's memories were restored and she told the X-Men what had happened to Sunfire. They went to where Rogue last saw Sunfire, but his body was missing, leading some of the X-Men to believe he was somehow still alive.

I added some info above.

is rogue's loss of ms. marvel's powers temporary?

No, it's permanent, and it has been that way for a few years now.

rogue lost all of her powers in x-treme, when they came back only her absorbtion was there. the borrowing of sunfires powers was kinda by accident. according to carey, her powers will evolve soon.

Oh goodie, more evolving mutant powers. I wonder what she'll be able to do now?

since regaining her power, Carey has her much more confident absorbing people. She uses this against her enemies way more then she has in the past. She also seems to have more control over the personalities and powers she absorbs.

I think her evolution will be about completely controlling her absorbing powers.

That wouldn't be too bad. It'd make her essentially identical to Mimic, but no one's doing anything with Mimic anyway, and Rogue has more mainstream recognition.
