BBC did a lot of Shakespearean tales in modern times, like Much ado about nothing with Damian Lewis and Taming the shrew..
other than that there's 10 things I hate about you as well.

Romeo + Juliet is a fantastic film visually but I found the antiquated language when coupled with the setting and time period a bit cheesy. When I was in 6th grade my class did a stage production of this movie. I wanted to be the apothecary because I didn't like the guy who ended up playing Romeo. I got cast as Paris instead. One line...and not even an interesting line either. I should have quit.

WEll you don't want to watch the Version with Micheal York in. Last year in English Literature Class we watched the New Version as well as one with Micheal York in and i have never been but through anything as bad as watching Micheal York Spout sheakspear in Spandex tights. It was a nightmare.

Back in 2000 (I think), there was a Hamlet film done starring Ethan Hawke that took place in contemporary settings. I think instead of Hamlet's dad being king of Denmark, he was the head of some corporation

Do any of the other modern-day Shakespeare movies use the original plays as scripts like Romeo + Juliet did?
