Felicity Jones in Talks to Star in Universal's Revisionist 'Romeo & Juliet'
5:17 PM PST 1/29/2014 by Borys Kit

Shawn Levy is producing via his 21 Laps shingle and the script is being penned by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the team who wrote "(500) Days of Summer."

Felicity Jones is in negotiations to star in Rosaline, Universal’s comedic and revisionist take on Romeo & Juliet, which Alex Timbers will direct.

Shawn Levy is producing via his 21 Laps shingle and the script is being penned by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the duo who wrote (500) Days of Summer.

Rosaline is set in the classic period of the play but uses modern language as it tells the story from the viewpoint of Rosaline, Romeo's first love, whom he dumps for her cousin, Juliet. The project has been compared to Wicked, the Wizard of Oz-based musical, in the sense that it tells a classic story from a different perspective.

The project is based on the novel When You Were Mine by Rebecca Serle, published in 2012 by Simon Pulse.

Billy Rosenberg of 21 Laps will executive produce and Dan Cohen will co-produce.

Maradith Frenkel, vp production, and Chloe Yellin, creative executive, will oversee the project for the studio.

Jones, a British actress who broke through in the U.S. with the Sundance hit Like Crazy, stars with Ralph Fiennes in The Invisible Woman, currently in theaters. She has wrapped a series of films, among them The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and True Story, with Jonah Hill and James Franco.

She is repped by WME, U.K.'s Independent Talent Group and attorney Jodi Peikoff.
From the writers of (500) Days of Summer, you say? Alright, I'm interested.

I feel like there was a story or film made about her years ago.
