Is this crap actually associated with the film?
The viral marketing campaign associated with TDK began with a guerilla -style raid on a comic book store to get the word out, followed quickly by two web sites featuring actual characters from the film -- including a dramatic and totally satisfying Joker reveal. There were like a million geek boners pressing up against a million geek bellies at once... Which is all we can ask for, really.
But for this limp-wristed Rorschach site? We get some schlub (who is apparently some geek-to-web veteran associated with Hobbit movies) who shellacs some black space with an MS-Word generated Rorschach signature. He takes the time to tilt it a few degrees, then add some Top Gun-inspired vapor trails -- 80s-era pixellated artifacts and all.
But then what? Is Snyder personally giving him instructions ? No way (Snyder to Schlubby McWebsite: "This would be awesome...").
Is WB throwing cash his way and saying "GO NUTS, KID!!!!!!!!!!". Either not, or probably, given his onering.net pedigree (which is F-ing sad).
So how did this oh-so original content come to be? He was probably struggling and took refuge in reading his dog-eared copy of the Hunt for Red October for the umpteenth time. Then it hits him: my "Rorschach"
can speak in morse freaking code!
Seriously, any one of us could have thought of a million cool things to do to push the Watchmen. I hope this doesn't reflect on the studio's approach to the whole film.
