Great Sandman moment: Sandy gets in The Swordsman's face when Swordsman insults Spider-Man, in Avengers Vol.3, #1.

Something to the effect of "If you wanna badmouth Spidey, you'll be doing it w/a mouthful of sand".

I enjoyed his tenure as a hero. But at the same time I was missing his bad guy days. Now that he's back on the side of the demons a small part of me misses his good guy days. But overall I do prefer him flinging sand AT Spidey rather than FOR him.

I thought Hydro-Man did a good job taking the place of "elemental type bad guy" in the Spider-Man Universe...it was lots of fun watching Sandman become a more well rounded character.

No arguments there. And Baker had validity as a good guy or I wouldn't have started this poll. I think that the period that he turned good has addded depth to him & again, I did enjoy it. I think Marvel should capitalize on this & bring him back to the forefront as a tortured, conflicted bad guy. Maybe he only stays in the crime life b/c he's convinced there's no 3rd chances.

Well, he was brain-washed back to villainy by his former parner, The Wizard, so he may not have a choice but to remain a bad guy...

Well, thing about Sandman is he's a character of convenience. He doesn't commit crime because of some psychotic compulsion, and he wasn't a hero because of some higher moral calling.

He played the role that was most convenient for him at the time. To tell the truth though, I really don't understand his return to villainy. It just doesn't jibe with the character's development. He had gained trust, and a lucrative career as one of Silver Sable's mercenaries.

Why turn his back on that for a life of petty crime once more? One story idea I have kicking around my head is one in which Silver Sable contacts Sandman once more for a contract job. I haven't gotten much concrete details beyond that, but one concept I wanted to explore was that Sandman actually was there when Scarlet Witch was going nuts and Disassembling the Avengers. He wasn't in the thick of things, but rather watching from the sidelines, conflicted about what to do. And the only one who noticed this was Sable.

Over the course of this job, he would come to realize that he had it good with Sable, that it was both a convenient job and a good way for him to make some kind of a positive impact on the world, even if it's just bringing down criminal scumbags for money.

Knowing you, you probably sat out "Chapter One " & everything connected to it, hence you don't know why he turned bad again. He didn't choose to; the Wizard kidnapped & brainwashed him, suppressing William Baker & bringing Flint Marko back to the surface.
I like your idea, though. In all likelihood he's gonna get his moment in the sun once again in 2007, so hopefully it'll be in a good story & not just something thrown together just for the sake of hyping the movie.

When you think of how old a villian Sandman is within Spidey's Rogue's Gallery, the potential for some in depth stories are there waiting to be told.We got several mini's on Doc Ock during the second movie-haven't seen anything being done with Sandman as far as mini's are concerned.
