Scanner problem.

I recently bought a scanner (photocopier, fax, printer), literally based on the size of the scanning surface. I needed a certain sized scanner to scan larger artwork. So far though it only wants to scan normal page sized work.
How can I fix this? Any general tips?

the brand and size would help? maybe its an option you have to select in the software

Its a Brother.

Scanning surface is 12.5" by 17.5"

Page is 11" by 16"
