Sorry if this question has been posted already but i couldn't find the answer.

Which scenes were filmed in IMAX? I read over 30min of the film was shot in IMAX.

Does that include the HK IFC sequence?

From what I can remember, all of the prologue was shot using IMAX cameras, Batman flying over Hong Kong, the freeway chase scene, Gordon's speech at the end, and all of the exterior helicopter shots of Gotham. There were some random scenes too like the plane landing to pick up Bruce on the yacht and the scene where Fox has to leave his cell phone at the front desk.

is there a way to tell which scenes were filmed in imax? like a quality difference or somthing?

The entire chase sequence with the Slaughter Truck, SWAT vans and Tumbler/Bat-Pod was shot in IMAX...and it was awesome!

I saw it at the Smithsonian IMAX theater...and the IMAX sequences expanded to full screen, while the non-IMAX sequences had letterbox format (still large, but not full IMAX screen).

A lot of it throws me off in regular viewing though.

The tumbler sandwhiching the garbage truck is re-framed horribly for the 2:35:1 ratio. As was little things like the thug shocked trying to take off Batman's mask and the subsequent Joker "bwrbbwrbbwrbbwrbbwrbbwrb"

The again with the crowbar at the end (that was IMAX right?)

i didn't even notice that, and i was sitting in the 2nd furthest row from the IMAX screen

i wish there was an imax near me so i could see the imax parts in all their glory. i wonder if they'l release the imax parts in full in the home releases

i saw it in imax first, then regular then imax again. and what people say is true, tdk in imax is so much more intense. make a trip and go see it in imax, this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity until nolan releases the next batman movie filmed ENTIRELY in IMAX!! hehe.

This is what I WANT TO KNOW!! Man, I sure hope they release the BluRay with it formatted the way it SHOULD be ( Going from the IMAX format to the widescreen format during the movie with NOTHING cropped out!!)

I have the prologue on BluRay and it is cropped which SUCKS but, it sure is TACK SHARP!!

I'm keeping my fingers croosed that they release this movie on BluRay the WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE SEEN! NO CROPPING!

Question here, say Nolan does a third and he does it all in IMAX will the notably "bad framed" scenes mentioned before show up even more frequently in a regular theater?

I for on didn't notice this, I've seen TDK 3 times, and Im going to watch it in IMAX for the first time tomorrow. Just pondering though.

Hopefully I will be seeing it in IMAX in a few weeks, do you guys think that TDK will still be in the cinemas, then???

TDK should run strong till mid Sept, so you should be able to find it about anywhere until then after that it's screens will decrease greatly. Though I'd think it run strong in IMAX til November.

You may want to go see it as soon as possible though. It's just one of those movies that's worth watching a ton of time in the theater. Im sure it will be good on DVD as well, but it is an EXPERIENCE when you see it on the big screen. This coming from a guy who hasn't seen it in IMAX yet.

Well I've gotta wait until after we've been on holiday, so.....

Though I have already seen it twice on a normal cinema screen.

My IMAX only cut out the bottom of the screen when it switched back to traditional format. So you only noticed when you looked for it.

I've seen it three times, all in IMAX, and I've been blown away each time. The amount of detail you find in the IMAX shots is just awe-inspiring. The scenes shot in IMAX (beginning to end):

- entire bank robbery
- aerial shot just before Lau/Wayne Enterprise meeting
- aerial shot of boat w/ plane landing
- aerial shot of Hong Kong and Fox walking into HK building
- aerial shots of Batman breaking into HK building and escape
- aerial shot just before the party scene begins
- aerial shot of Batman on Sears Tower
- aerial shot just before beginning of parade
- entire chase scene
- Batman on Batpod on way to Rachel
- Joker escaping in police car (best shot in the entire movie in my opinion)
- Alfred reading Rachel's letter
- Batman in Rachel's building's wreckage
- Bruce in Lamborghini saving Reese
- Joker walking out of hospital and hospital explosion
- aerial shot of hospital wreckage
- aerial shot of Gotham evacuating
- aerial shots of building where Batman and Joker face-off
- Batman's sonar vision
- Batman vs. Joker showdown (up until Batman has Joker hanging)
- entire final 2 minutes

A lot of the establishing shots or IMAX'ed up nice.
