Science problem

Glue. Either that or it used to be a really big rock, but years of erosion made it small and corrugated like that:o
 
My guesses.

1.) Because the rocks have eroded and weathered over themselves over time.
2.) Or because the pressure of the rocks from some other force bonded them together.
3.) Or they were freeze-thawed.


Thats my guess, I wouldve been able to answer that last year, because I was in Earth Science and we went over something like that, but I forgot.

Assuming the rocks aren't motored or held in place by rods, then it's likely due to center of gravity and friction.

Friction between the rocks due to their large mass keeps them from sliding off of eachother.

The center of gravity of the sculpture is not over the middle of the bottom rock, but looks to be at the 'inner' (smaller) edge of the rock. If you draw a line up from the smaller edge of the bottom rock you can see that parts of the upper rocks are on the other side of the center of gravity. Since some of the weight is on the other side, it helps pull the tower in that direction, keeping it from toppling over.

Parodoxically, the massive weight of the rocks is probably what's actually keeping it from tipping over (by greatly increasing friction, and putting some weight on the other side of the tower.


Of course, this is just a guess, and could turn out to be complete bull.
 
My guess is that the weight of the rocks is heavier/stronger than the pull of gravity.
