There are a couple disparate threads going on here. I like Malcolm's story and how he's trying to become a better PI. I also like the idea of Malcolm and Trish getting together. The landlord story is a bit forced. That being said, I do think he's a better Scott Lang than Scott Lang. He's a former criminal who actually has a legitimate past and is trying to make the best of it (while acknowledging that he has to sometimes do not great things). He also has a kid. Scott Lang in Alias was kind of a jerk. I can't say for sure that this is a tribute to that character, but it feels similar enoug to note. I like that he backed off Jess's advances (which, once again, fits Scott's desire to "fix" Jess). I also like the fakeout with Trish. Very upset that boyfriend might not be on the level, although, if he's straight working for IGH, I feel some explanation is needed for when he encouraged Trish to investigate.
The story with investigating the chick klling people is cool. Once again, the main story is the most interesting. But I do think the side stories are pretty cool too.
Four Stars.
