So I finnaly got back into the main Marvel comic universe after just reading the Ultimate line. Anyway I started with just picking Ghost Rider up and then I found Planet Hulk at Half Price books. Now I am knee deep in Graphic Novels. Bit I was wondering, I've read a few of the Civil War books and was wondering how important is Secret War to the series?

Is it worth picking up? I've heard a couple people talking about it at the comic shop when I asked what the main Civil War books to read were but I don't know to much about it. Any help?

Secret War isn't that important to Civil War. It's sort of a prologue. Nick Fury oversteps his bounds and uses superheroes for an unsanctioned black op, and it blows up in his face. He's relieved of his position in SHIELD, replaced by Maria Hill, and branded a fugitive, so he goes underground. That's Secret War in a nutshell. If you want to relate it to Civil War, it can be considered the first step in the public's fear of superheroes with no accountability, but the Stamford disaster is really what galvanized support for the registration bill and you see that in the actual Civil War mini-series.

As far as whether Secret War is a story worth reading, yeah, it was all right. Not spectacular and it didn't really live up to its own hype, but it was a decent story.

It took forever to come out, if I remember correctly. Had some cool covers.

Yeah, the art was fantastic. Is that still the only Marvel comic Dell'Otto's painted interiors for?

Something tells me no, but I can't think of what. (I'm not much into painted art for comics though. But I did dig the covers)

If you want to know why Nick Fury isn't around during Civil War, I say check out Secret War. If not, it's not essential but it is a fun read.

The artwork wasn't to my liking but it's still solid.
