Secret Wars to return next year.

It's dragging on a bit isn't it? The central title (which is okay) seems to have been going on for months - and most of the secondary titles are entirely dispensable. At least Convergence was all done and dusted inside a couple of months. This seems to be just dragging on and on. I can't wait for the proper Marvel Universe to resume later this year.

I'm actually loving it. Got me back into reading comics. I'm hoping to see the mythical matchup of Thanos and Apocalypse bumping into each other.

So is the regular Marvel universe going to resume as if secret wars never happened or will Sectet Wars forever change the Marvel universe? I thought that Secret Wars was going to transform the Marvel Universe forever?!?!

I think there will be some 'tinkering' with the Marvel Universe, but I imagine it won't be dramatically different.

What I meant was I'm looking forward to the regular titles resuming. Most of these gimmicky Elseworlds' mini series have left me cold.

From what I read recently, Marvel has said that the core of the main MU will be the same as we've known but there will be new characters and a few other things will change.

That makes me happy since I was expecting a full or mostly done reboot of the entire MU which is why I dislike DC. That they've said explicitly they're keeping the main MU intact is why I'm planning to stay with them.

thats been apparent like a month into this event when we started seeing glimpses of the post-SW world. Solicits showing the same status quo continuing on pretty much gave that away

So does this excite anyone regarding the storytelling potential in MCU?

It's so sad to see how far Marvel publishing has fallen. It breaks my heart.

It really does.

Is any of this available in trade yet? I've heard some good things and the fact that
Doom is the central figure
makes me even more interested.

It might still be too early though? I'm purposefully not reading much about it so I can go in fresh. Is there a good reading list/order online somewhere? Is it correct that I should go all the way back and read Hickman's FF run?

Me, my heart is just fine anticipating the awesome new books coming out in October and November :woot:

I didn't read Hickman's FF run, so I don't think you necessarily need that. I DO think, however, that you need to read his Avengers and New Avengers run. Those lead right into Secret Wars. And as far as Secret Wars goes, you only need the core mini. Everything else is just other things happening on Battleworld. So far none of it is important to the main story.

Personally, I didn't read any of Hickman's run
and while Secret Wars #1 was a tad confusing as a result, the gist of it is easy to understand, and by issue #2 I was totally up to speed

so if you want to do minimal reading outside of the event itself, you'll be alright
if you want the full details tho, reading Hick's Avengers should suffice
his FF run I hear is just more indicative of the way he writes Doom and the FF, rather than necessary to the current plot of SW

I probably confused a recent article on good Doom stories with the one I saw re: Secret Wars then. Thanks for info

Marvel will never be as good for me as long as the FF are not together and published. Or Cap is old, Falcon is cap and Thor is female, but that is secondary.

well I'm not too happy about old Steve, unworthy Thor, or dead Wolvie myself
but I think that's part of why I'm enjoying SW, I don't even have to acknowledge those characters lol

and the FF are integral to the event, so that should make ya a little happy

It does but what makes me more unhappy is the fact that once SW is over there will be no more Reed or Sue (except if they happen to guest in a mag) and Johnny and Ben are on other teams. I believe that at some point they will bring back the FF. My issue isn't so much that they are doing one of these changes (I forgot to include Hulk will be Maestro now and Wolverine is old) but the are basically resetting not only the universe but a lot of the characters too.

That irritates me immensely, they could put them on other teams if they wanted, they did that with Ben and Johnny. Heck, Johnny is on two different teams. Sue and Reed (especially Sue for me) should also get the chance to be on other teams to try and gain new fans for when the book eventually returns.

But because they are very integral to Secret Wars' plot, I hope Marvel is just holding out on information to stop the conclusion from being spoiled.

Johnny on two teams? I know Inhumans but where else? I had originally heard they planned on putting Sue on an Avengers team. Not sure what happened since. I think the plan eventually is to put things back as they were, but until then my monthly suscriptions are going from 12 magazines pre SW to just 3 after.

I never thought about the possibility of them holding off on announcing any plans, though to me though the fact Ben and Johnny are in other groups is not a good sign.

Johnny is in Inhumans and seems to be in Uncanny Avengers, I think the artist confirmed it was Johnny on his twitter.

While I am not pleased with the disbanding of the F4, I can see the positive of them being on different teams temporarily. As long as it is every member, not seeing Sue and Reed (especially Sue as she hasn't had the chance like the others) in anything in this new Marvel has me extremely worried. If they aren't included (especially Sue) then I may take a break from Marvel. With SHIELD #4 revealing Sue to being a secret agent, it looked like she was going be in that book, but there has been no word on that front...

Interesting. Thought that was the Jim Hammond Torch but maybe it is him.

I'd really like to jump into all these post-SW #1's but I kinda feel the need to wait and see how the event ends. Freakin' Jan 16th
