Ok......this is crazy

Santorum defends Iraq war

By ALISON HAWKES
Bucks County Courier Times

Embattled U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum said America has avoided a second terrorist attack for five years because the “Eye of Mordor” has been drawn to Iraq instead.

Santorum used the analogy from one of his favorite books, J.R.R. Tolkien's 1950s fantasy classic “Lord of the Rings,” to put an increasingly unpopular war in Iraq into terms any school kid could easily understand.

“As the hobbits are going up Mount Doom, the Eye of Mordor is being drawn somewhere else,” Santorum said, describing the tool the evil Lord Sauron used in search of the magical ring that would consolidate his power over Middle-earth.

“It's being drawn to Iraq and it's not being drawn to the U.S.,” Santorum continued. “You know what? I want to keep it on Iraq. I don't want the Eye to come back here to the United States.”

Hey, PA person!!! Oh yeah, I can't wait to see Santorum get his a$$ handed to him.

I am a Rep and I can't wait to get this nut out of office.

Good work bringing LOTR into the debate. Shame the analogy made zero sense.

I think this, since he was actually elected to his position

Actually, I think this would be a more suitable analogy.

Iraq is the City of Osgiliath after it had been seized by the Witchking's army.
George Bush is Denethor.
The United States Army is Faramir's men.

Denethor sends Faramir's men into Osgiliath knowing it was a suicide run.

nice! Then, who's Gandalf?

I'm a strong Republican myself, but I can see how easilly this analogy could be used against him and other Repubs...

"The Eye of Mordor is purposely distracted towards another battle, so that to keep attention away from what's REALLY going on at home."

This dude's just feeding his ravenous opposers. :down

He's a tool; trust me. He tore his a$$ with PA voters a long time ago.:cmad:

Is his dead fetus like Arwen and Aragorn's kid from the future?
TEDDY!

So is he saying that the reason we went into the war is to distract the terrorists from America? Or is he saying that's just a by-product? Either way, it's a pretty callous thing to say that our soldiers should continue to die fighting in an increasing quagmire just so the terrorists won't attack again. By the way, I do not buy into his theory that the war is a distraction. Well, maybe it is a distraction, but it's us who's being distracted.

There will come a day when the strength of men fails, but it is not this day!

(by strength, I mean stupidity)

When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. TEDDY!

Good for him. If I knew my ass were on the way out of office (and make no mistake about it, stick a fork in Santorum, he's done) I'd at least have some fun with it.
