I just finished handbinding Kitty Pryde: Shadow & Flame. I relaid the original covers into a roll fold. Endsheets are a textured biege color. Hardcover is Japanese print with gold motifs on black. Spine is lined with PVC red stock with fake leather texture.

My next project will be the twelve issues covering Bucky's ascension towards becoming Captain America.

hmm. i dont see any Ultimate Marvel in the first post... =p

PUNISHER Rules, your collection drives me insane. The differant sizes and hardcovers mixed with paperbacks.... that kills me. Back when I had a lot of trades I had them separated to type. Nowadays I have 6 trades (Y: The Last Man 1 & 2, Invincible 1, I AM LEGEND, Secret War, and Pride Of Baghdad) and the rest are comics I've had personally bound into my own hardcover volumes.

I don't like mixing different titles together when I'm binding my comics. I also prefer to cut out the covers and have them relaid together for the first signature. I'm playing with roll folds and accordian folds. But what you've got is pretty cool.

I'm almost done binding the twelve issues of Winter Soldier becoming Captain America. I'm not satisfied with how Marvel republished them in their separate arcs of six issues a book. I want to add a black and white print of the classic Capt. America bust by Alex Ross. But that might be too expensive to accomplish. The endsheets will be red. Overall cover is black linen with a blue spine. Maybe later on I'll order shiny nickel silver book corners. After this book is done I might reconsider binding the Fallen Son issues to compliment it. I can add a reprint of the death story to make it six issues total.

But I also have the Post Civil War Avengers comics to bind as well. They're no longer so precious to me and I want to try new creative techniques. So I'll work on New Avengers #27-32. I've added #32 because I'm not satisfied with how they ended "The Revolution" story. Thirty-two feels like a good epilogue, even if it's the first part of "The Trust". To compliment that book I'll also bind the first six issues of the Mighty Avengers. It's a good thing all these Avengers comics both have a consistent artist work.

Just curious... why do u remove those jacket thingys from ur hardcovers?

They annoy me for some reason...plus I don't think they look half bad.

I have got to get me some of those Omnibuses.

Hey guys- just out of curiousity, when you mention hand binding your books, how do you do that? Is there an online tutorial that I might be able to use? My collection is starting to get rather obscene and I'd love to be able to do something nice with my books like that. Thanks in advance.

I learned it back in college. There are many bookbinding sources online but you'll have to experiment what style you prefer. For archival purposes you can just go to service bureaus just to have them hardbound.

I'll take pictures of what I've got after all the heavy rain is gone.

then wat do u do with all the jackets? pin em up on ur wall? 0.0

I keep them in a box in the basement. If I weren't a pack rat I'd probably just throw them away, but there it is...

They are very loud in design. I'm not comfortable with them either.

Thanks for the agreeing with me, I was wondering if that was weird of me or something. Also guests who don't read comics are a little more impressed with the library, makes it look less 'cartooney'.

i think if u put a couple (like at least 5) of the 'jacketless' hcs together it looks very cool.

I have a friend who does that with his novels. He throws away all dust covers because he likes the bare book look better. Me, weather graphic novel or regular novel, I liked them better without the dustcover but can't bring myself to get rid of them or take them off.

I understand your argument but I also don't see much of a good reason to separate the trades and HC's for that reason. I want my Avengers trades with my Avengers hardcovers and it doesn't strike me as odd at all. It's all good to me.

You'd think Marvel would commission the cover artists to make a new cover image for these collected editions. They did it before like, in the Longshot and Asgardian Wars graphic novels. Now they cut and paste previous cover art. :cmad:

With novels the cover artwork isn't as exciting anymore. Too clean, too simplified, or rehashed.

Blaze3x3, you have an awesome collection by the way.

Thanks, I'm proud of it. My girlfriend says if the house was on fire I'd probably save the collection before her...I told her I'd save her so she could help me save the collection.

For me, i keep the jackets on. in fact, i scotchtape em down to the hcs.
(so they wont get in the way when u read em =p)
