Well? I say yes, computers don't let emotions get in the way of what's best for the patient. You can't trust people that much when it comes to medical treatment.

I think that the hope for a technological application such as this lies in the middle ground. Perhaps the computer could be used to offer up a suggested course of action for the next of kin to take into consideration for their decision, so that they get a more analytical piece of input outside of their most likely emotional one. Unless the damn thing is running Microsoft Windows and then it's just a really bad idea and shouldn't ever be implemented.

in a few years time, when the tech is up to the challenge, yes, totally... jurys, medical stuff, politics, etc... ought to be done all by comuters.

like you said, no emotions, no bias, no payoffs, no alterior motives... just cold, hard facts... and no one to blame should something go wrong. if some poor guy is sentenced to death for killing someone, then his much richer counterpart is put on trial for the same crime, they both get the same sentence... no johnny cochran, no bribes, just plain old justice. i'm sick of rich people getting away with crimes simply because they can afford better representation. that isn't justice at all, it's a smack in the face.

I don't want ANYTHING I'm associated with in this world to be associated with THIS GUY in any way, shape or form, least of all a decision about whether I will live or die.

While I agree with you that computers can offer a lot in that situation by offering several conceivable solutions to a problem, we don't have the time to wait for Jobs to make the decision stylish.

Maybe you don't, but I do. ;)

Won't this kind of thing lead to a war between man and machine?

That'd be kinda cool.
