Superman Returns showed us that the world still needs Superman to save it but upon deeper analysis, is being dependant on a figure like Superman to save the world a misstep in a positive evolution of society (or humanity on a whole)?

As much as I love Superman, I think the ultimate goal or outcome of Superman is to reform the world (and humanity in general) into being able to save itself .

I think that would be an interesting angle to explore and perhaps a good conclusion for the final Superman film for humanity to have moved progressively forward thanks to Superman and is no longer dependant on him for salvation. Its an ideal that seems more inspirational to me than depicting humanity solely dependant on an alien to save it.

Since this \S/ franchaise is very real-world based, I think some kind of progress should be made in regards to the human race thanks to Superman and that Jor-El's prophesy of humanity being a great race thanks to Superman's "light showing them the way" come true.

I think Superman's ultimate goal is for humanity to eventually not need him, at least on a personal/sociological level. Disasters and such happened before he got there, and they will happen after he's gone. But if humanity can take Supes' example of using his gifts for the good of mankind, and follow his lead, he will have accomplished his purpose. People don't need superpowers to be like Superman...they just have to believe in and strive for peace and equality.

But hopefully, they'll be a little more careful when it comes to unplanned pregnancy. :D

That ideal is what I actually want to see at the very end of the final \S/ film.

Perhaps a 'Whatever Happened to the Man of Tommorow'-like ending where Kal-El is seen living as a human with Lois and Jason years after his adventures as Superman and the world is now a better place.

???
did SR show that the world still need superman???
all i saw was a kid walking his dog in a park peacefully and looking up to the sky and wondering. "what the heck that stupidman lifting a giant rock and get himself killed."

^You do realise if Superman had not go rid of the island all of the US would have been flooded.

Yeah i would like to see something like this explored in a future movie, but not for a couple of movies yet. Its a good point though and hopefully they may intergrate parts of it into the sequel.

Well once something has been put in place to create order within a society, once that order has been reached, it is then hard to remove that which you have placed in as a foundation of the new utopia...

not only superman but the same can be said about most religions, laws, the american soldiers in Iraq etc...

in short, the answer is no. chaos to a certain extent would resume after the presence has left.

And there goes the intelligence of this thread

Nice while it lasted.

-_- He couldnt lift NK into space obviously.

He couldnt even break the door on the ship as they were about to sink to their watery graves.

NK?

North Korea?

Pfft, sure he could have broken that door.

unfortunately, the people of metropolis didn't know about it. what they saw is that stupidman lifting an island out of nowhere and got himself almost killed.

Still he saved humanity, even when circumstances or Superman himself didn't self-promote his heroic actions.

And I say, the whole act of ripping the big rock off of the ocean ground caused earthquakes and tsunamis with much uglier results for the world than just the sudden rise of landmass. But anyway, we would've all died within hours. There was nothing Superman or even the JLA could've done at that point. You can't play around with the structure of a planet, definitely not Earth's, and expect a happy ending.

To the thread question: Maybe, as the final ending or something. Otherwise there's not any sense in producing another Superman movie if the people can take care of themselves. And wasn't THIS movie already promoted with the words "... a world that has learned to live without Superman"?
But it's actually an interesting plotpoint worthy of a movie. Let's hope we get one in the future. A simple "Death of Superman" movie is lame, especially if some idiot like Doomsday just comes and kills Supes.

I agree. Though Doomsday would be a wicked action villian for future films.

They should do it like in Infinite Crisis. Doomsday deals a fatal blow to Superman....it looks like the classic death scene.... and boom, Superman gets up like it was nothing. That was pretty badass.

wow, kid kaos, your sign is ...

ya, perhaps that's why the fans are upset, even though they are getting a sequel...

Then after Superman Forever, Superman & Superboy.
