Sicario

They're developing Sicario 2 but I'm not sure Denis Villeneuve wants' to get back into it so quickly and by then they might miss their chance for a spin-off/sequel. He said after he's done post on Story of Your Life and shot Blade Runner 2 over the summer, he'll take a break, as he's worked virtually nonstop making back to back movies(Incendies/Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario,SOYL and now BR2).
 
I'm in two minds on a sequel, its one of those films that works perfectly without anything else after it but then on the other hand the characters were so good I want to know what happens next with them. Depends if they can come up with a good story I guess.

And also Blade Runner 2 was been shot and exists now, thats amazeballs.
 
I'd rather a sequel than a ****ing spin off.
 
I would watch Sicario 2 if Benecio Del Toro returns and if Denis directs.

I consider this a perfect film. Well, as perfect as a film can reasonably be. It doesn't need a sequel, but if Denis and Benicio return I'll give the sequel a chance.
 
I loved this film, right up there with Ex Machina as my favorites of the year, bought it on blu-ray first chance I got...but I don't want a sequel. At all. I mean, I'd watch one if Denis made it, but I just don't think it needs or warrants one in any way.

Ordered my copy the other day, been wanting to see it more than any other film I missed at the cinema this past year.

Me thinks you will enjoy Hunter, was gripped from beginning to end. Kind of like a more serious Breaking Bad. Everyone who is in it is great but especially Del Toro and my current fave of the moment Emily Blunt :ilv:

Yep glad its getting some recognition from award season. They are not the be and end all I know but I am happy for those involved get the recognition I feel they deserve at least even if they dont win. Its Oscar chances seem low at this point though other than technical stuff and maybe Del Toro.
 
Here's hoping he get's the recognition at the major awards for Story of Your Life. That's scheduled for a autumn/winter release. Bar the Blade Runner sequel he doesn't go for prestige or blockbuster type movies nor too much Oscar bait, Which I really admire about him.

He did get a BAFTA nom for Incendies but that was for Best Foreign Film.

Miss Blunt is a Hype fav at this point. :D It looks very good and reminds me of Traffic meets The Kingdom.
 
It's so good and so glad I got to see in the theater last year. I still need to see it again though.
 
Awesome film. My second fave of the year behind Mad Max.

The whole cast is awesome. Del Toro just has this intangible intimidation about him. His silence is unnerving. You can believe his character has been seen and done some bad ****. The ending with him and Blunt is just unreal. It's so tense and unpredictable because of Del Toro's performance as Alejandro throughout the film. We know he has a thing for Kate, he sees his daughter in her. But then we know what he is capable of. I honestly couldn't predict the outcome when i first watched it.

I liked the story too. The whole idea of trying to get total power back to the Medellin Cartel is a plausible tactic that i can totally buy. The Drug War is dirty and unwinnable, so trying to form some kind of control through one group is a realistic goal.

Deakins cinematography is always out of this world. The helicopter shots in the scene where they go to Juarez (the whole sequence is masterfully shot and edited), with that thumping score in the background were really atmospheric. And the finale in the tunnel with the different types of night vision was bad ass.

Does anyone else think that Alejandro wanted Kate to kill him? I took it as him standing there wanting her to kill him. He knows he has become a complete monster. He has got his revenge. I believe he wants, is hoping, that Kate will end it all for him.
 
Personal favorite part of the movie is when Alejandro sits down with the cartel leader. Brilliantly tense scene.
 
This was a really good film. Very tense and well acted. I feel like the trailers and tv spots kind of mis-advertised this as an action film, this is not an action film. There are some cool, very tense black-op infiltration set pieces but this is not a shoot-em up adrenaline rush kind of film. I loved the intensity, nd the message that was being conveyed. You can tell the director had a lot to say about this story.

I literally said "OMG" out loud during THAT scene when Benecio Del Toro confronts the drug cartel leader. What an incredibly tense piece.

I don't know if i'd call it a perfect film, but its definitely upper tier filmmaking. Its a film with something to say and not a mind-dumbing action film ( this is coming from someone who LOVES dumb action films btw). Its refreshing to see a film like this. I would watch a sequel if they made one but it is not necessary.

P.S. MAN, this film had a good score. VERY moody, atmospheric and tense; complimented the movie perfectly.

That whole trip into Juarez was tense as hell and beautifully shot. I felt like I was right there for the ride along.

Ain't a doubt in my mind Alejandro was giving Kate the chance to kill him. I mean why else would you leave your gun (albeit deconstructed) in there with her? Loved the duality of it.

I don't see how the blunt character can be seem as a strong female character when we see multiple times she can't coup in this gray/off the books tactics

-She get's saved by Alejandro from being choked to death.

-She get's shot in the chest by Alejandro

-She get's put down by Josh Brolin's character at the end

-She can't shoot Alejandro. He basically makes her submit to lying about the facts


Kate and that other DEA agent get treated like crap when they go into the tunnel

Leader- Don't shoot any of my men


Then Alejandro tell's her to go away. This is wolf territory which sounded like "This is a man's world"

It became about Alejandro at the end too. Blunt might aswell have been a side character

I need to find more films like that to watch. The score and cinematography took my viewing experience to a whole new level.
