Happy to report 'Sicario: Day of the Soldado' is *extremely* well made and features fantastic performances from Josh Brolin and Benecio del Toro. As you might expect, Taylor Sheridan's screenplay is excellent. Really hope the film does well so they can complete the trilogy.

Taylor Sheridan’s sequel Sicario: Day of the Soldado deepens the characters played by Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro in unexpected ways. Director Stefano Sollimo delivers. June 29.

Saw Sicario: Day of the Soldado last night. It's FANTASTIC. It's doesn't have the visual splendor of Villeneuve's first film, but Taylor Sheridan's screenplay is SUPERB. Film has unexpected heartbreaking moments and strong performances from Del Toro and Brolin.

Moreover, Soldado is VERY timely. There is little black and white on the border between Mexico and the US. It's a grey zone and Sheridan's script isn't afraid to go there. It's a dramatic thriller with something to say. Go see it, because I can't wait to see a third chapter.

SOLDADO should have been at CANNES either in or out of competition. I heard the festival wanted it, but the decision was made note to go even though Del Toro was Un Certain Regard jury prez. Would have been a strong critical kick off for them and much needed buzz.

It's gooooood. Or at the very least, straight up my alley. Sollima gave me the sequel I thought I didn't want. Wonderful storytelling economy. Wicked sense of tension throughout. Wolski goes to TOWN. Brolin/Del Toro step it up. Sheridan is a beast on the page, man. Love. It.

Sicario 2 or Soldado or whatever we’re calling it is really amazing. Tense, thrilling, and surprising with solidly orchestrated set pieces and real emotion. It’s like “Clear and Present Danger” for a new generation (I mean that in a good way). And bring on part 3 (please).

Dark doesn’t begin to describe SICARIO: DAY OF THE SOLDADO. It’s f***ed up and I kinda loved it. Maybe not quite as much as the first film, but Brolin & Benicio are FIRE & Taylor Sheridan proves again why he’s one of the best writers in town. Not a perfect sequel but VERY badass

Sicario: Day Of The Soldado is a surprising and satisfying sequel. Takes advantage of two of the first's best elements (Del Toro & Brolin), and gives them a thrilling, tense, and crazy dark mission. It has certain problems, but I dug it.

SICARIO: DAY OF THE SOLDADO is, surprisingly, pretty awesome. Tense, gritty, and ends on a note where I want more. Benicio del Toro is amazing.

I was a bit letdown by SICARIO: DAY OF THE SOLDADO. It’s got all of the darkness of the original, but none of the purpose.

People should check Steffano Solima's work in Gomorrah the series, it's one of the best shows out there, about napolitan Mafia

I've been meaning to check that and A.C.A.B out, haven't gotten around to it. Suburra was a damn good Italian mafia yarn.

I had my doubts about this as well

But I’m ready to jump back into the land of the wolves

Taylor Sheridan is one of the best writers working today. I never had any doubts about this flick. I can't wait to see it.

Encouraging early reactions at least, was very sceptical about a sequel but maybe there is hope.

Doubting Taylor Sheridan is never a good idea. I was skeptical of this until I found out he was still writing it.

Gonna watch the first one again tonight, been a while. Loved it though.

I was still skeptical because I'd sell out for millions of dollars too...but this is all promising.

A lot of people were doubting Sheridan on the last page before a handful of tweets.

It's getting decent reviews. Currently in the late 60's on RT.

As we mostly predicted, no where near as good as the first movie and that’s a shame.

I would normally agree, considering the man wrote and directed 3 of my favorite movies from the past 3 years. I also am totally in on Yellowstone. But the first film is so obviously influenced by Villeneuve, this looking like a cheap knock off is going to be hard to swallow. And considering all the reviews so far, it sounds like very blunt instrument of a movie, missing everything that made the first special. There seems to be no subtly here whatsoever. Which is strange to me, considering the other 3 films.

I did not expect this to be good... but it is VERY good. It is very uncomfortable to watch during these times, but what at first appears to be right wing propaganda becomes much more nuanced, and queasily realistic in how bad everyone looks. Great performances and high tension too.

Real shock this turned out to be one of the better movies of the summer.

I am curious how it appears to be Right Wing propaganda considering the trailer and the first film. Like what about it?

Probably something like "all Mexicans are criminals, but white Americans with guns can fix it."

How is the score? Is "The Beast" featured at all?

Looking forward to seeing this later today, not sure what to expect, heard things ranging from "surprisingly great follow up" down to "pointless sequel" so I guess it could go either way at this point.
