I have to admit I haven't followed this movie very closely. Haven't even seen any of the trailers, just a couple posters and images.
 
Seeing it tomorrow.

Excited! Really liked the first film and can't wait to see more of Brolin and Del Toro.
 
Saw it last night. It obviously doesn't hold up to the last one, but I thought pretty damn great. I was worried with the way the movie opened (and it's rough) that it was going to be some extreme jingoistic right wing crap, but thankfully they got around it. Where the first Sicario was a mystery/crime film, this was a war film meets a western. Taylor Sheridan's writing was great as always and the new director does try to mimic the style of the first movie. It basically is Benicio del Toro's movie and by the end, it's obvious they want to make more of these. Overall, it's one of the better movies this year.

You know they always do that for satire in most movies. Except Bay's.
 
Saw it today, like it but not in love with it like the first. It still has that Sicario feel and look of the first but not on the same level of tension with the action or drama. Del Toro's character wasnt exactly "let loose" like the trailers hinted at, in fact its more Brolin's who is more brutal and a "sicario" in this one.

The ending was extremely odd as well and felt a little contrived to shoe horn in a third, which while I would still be interested but it needs to find the tension and unsettling nature of the first film again, this was all done proficiently well enough, there is nothing down right bad at all here, but it lost the spark of unnerving which made the first a classic to me anyway.

Saw this post on reddit. Supposedly the director and producer changed the script...

I saw this movie at a pre-screening followed by a Q&A with the Director and Producer of the movie.

What a lot of people suspect here is 100% correct per the Director’s and Producer’s own admission. They changed Taylor’s first draft of the script significantly, specifically the third act. In my opinion, this definitely shows. The movie was not in line with Taylor’s other epic screen plays, and it felt like the third act was completely missing.

If I recall the details of the changes correctly (which btw they were very proud of), they said Taylor’s original script had the third act culminate with BDTs character searching out the cartel boss, and continuing his rampage from the first movie. Instead, the Director determined the focus should be on character development. So the focus was shifted to BDTs relationship with the girl’s character, and they completely rewrote the ending.

The Director also did not see the relationship between JB’s and BDT’s characters as a friendship. He wanted to have them face off and go head to head in the movie instead of working together, resulting in the strange way JB’s character made the phone call to BDT to basically tell him they are enemies now. They also apparently took out significant storylines related to the terrorists, and instead resolved that storyline by saying the terrorists were actually US citizens.

If anyone has any leads, I would love to get a chance to read the original script. I have faith that Taylor’s original ending was much true to the story and the characters.

Not surprised to hear that. I just got out and some things felt very very off about how things developed. Plots harshly dropped, out of character decisions, and things that felt a little uneventful. I don't even think they accomplished what they wanted character development wise either. I hope they can get Denis back if they do a 3rd.
 
Yeah that explains a lot of what happened in the last 20 minutes of the film.
 
Watched it yesterday!

Briliiant! Dark, intense and captures the atmosphere of the first film just perfect.

Brolin and Del Toro brought in their A-game as usual.

Can't wait for Part 3!

It begins with the worst nightmare for border towns (that is a constant refrain in Fox News propaganda), and the response is to send the Americans with guns in to teach the cartels a lesson, given their indirect connection to a terrorist attack.

However, I think the movie does a very good job of showing the desperation of most people on the migrant trail, even if many are being exploited by the system down there, and the Americans wind up looking horrible. Without giving too much away, what they're asked to do, both by the American president's administration and even their initial plan of attack is kind of horrible and they really just wind up making things worse.
 
I have to say this is another Sheridan film with a great ending.
 
I'm going to just be in the minority and say I liked this one more than the first. I think Sheridan's writing is just a hair better here. Villanueve directed the **** out of the first film which was quite straightforward. There are some good surprises here and I did appreciate the slight humanizing of Alejandro and graver.

10/10

If there's a third just have Sheridan direct.

I thought the final scene was outright embarassing to be honest with you, with him approaching the kid with a title drop.
 
Watched this today. It was enjoyable but doesn’t compare to the first movie.

One question,
what happened at the very end? Was he about to mull
That kid or make him work for him?
