Konami Silent Hill 2 Remake

I'm curious if they will do more remakes. Surely if this sells well, the first or the third game is next.

By the way, the only SH game, I've played is Silent Hill: The Room, so if they remake that, that would be interesting to me.

I just want the 1-4 remakes and I'll be happy. 4 was the last great SIlent HIll game. I remember playing it in middle school and never finished it because it creeped me out too much. :funny:

I've never finished it as well, but I was more confused than scared.

I do miss the way James said Mary in the original. It feels strange to hear him sound normal. :funny:

About to make it to my favorite boss and hope it lives up to how messed up it is. Abstract Daddy

This will pop in my head every now and then.

Fun fact:
You can see Mary's body in the backseat of James's car at the start of the game.

It would be such a missed opportunity to remake a game from a franchise with 9 entries, and not remake at least two more.

Anyway the sales are good, so Silent Hill 1 should be a no brainer at this point. Like imagine if Capcom didn't do more remakes after RE2...

The way he says Mary in the original. 🤧

Which one did you get?

I heard they changed the lighting on the fire staircase scene.

I had never played a Silent Hill game before but because I loved the Resident Evil remakes (and have gotten into that franchise big time) I figured I'd give Silent Hill 2 (remake) a shot. Went in with fairly medium expectations not knowing what I would get from it, and I also just replayed The Last of Us before this so my mind had a pretty fresh update on how great a videogame CAN be.

But I honestly was blown away by it and for me it's easily up there with the best games of this genre. While I've seen people debate what I consider fairly minor things (like overuse of mannequin enemies) I thought this game nailed pretty much everything. The characters are great - James is a fantastically nuanced protagonist, you have very memorable side characters like Angela or Eddie. The story is really good and the revelations of what actually happened towards the end really hit the spot. The setting is really strong with the foggy town of Silent Hill but also very memorable sections (and not a single bad one in there) and the atmosphere was creepy and unsettling. The soundtrack really helped make it feel special and the sound design (enemies in the distance, banging on doors, random breathing) made me feel paranoid through parts of the game.

I know some people wont be as positive as me because they have a fondness for the original, but I loved this game! Definitely goes up there among my favorite games I've played.

Glad you liked it. Now if only we could get Silent Hill 1 remade, you can understand why the town is the way it is.

I have seen a few negatives about the game that I can sort of see, even if they don't ruin anything for me. A good example I heard was that once you encounter the nurses in the hospital, there's really no escalation of enemies from that point and that's only about halfway into the game. Unlike a Resident Evil for example where usually every section has a new enemy stronger than the last section. I guess with a remake they're probably tied a bit to the original so I can't argue too much about that since I haven't played the original. But I do think the spider-mannequins in the prison could have been given a different 'look', that would have made them feel like a different enemy than just the same one with a new ability. I also think the labyrinth or the hotel could have used something new in that aspect.

But for me it's more of a minor nitpick than anything I feel strongly about. I would put this on par with RE2R and RE4R as a 10/10 game. There's things I think the RE games do better and there's things I think SH2R does better. For me the story in this game was really good and once you find out what happened with James and his wife, it's really emotionally resonant in a way that the RE games aren't. But the RE games also don't really go for the emotional story, they're about other things and I think for example the variety in weapons and how different a playthrough can be helps make RE more "re-playable". I do think it's funny both with SH2R and the RE games that for the most part our protagonist has no reactions to the crazy thing happening. I love James in this and I love Leon in RE but sometimes it makes you chuckle that they defeat some crazy ass monster and move onto the next room like it was nothing out of the ordinary. :D
