Konami Silent Hill f

Just rolled credits on the game! I'll wait with posting some more spoiler-y thoughts on the actual story and characters since it's more fun to have those discussions as others have played it too.

But here are some thoughts in regard to gameplay and the combat which I know some people have been sceptical or hesitant about:
I thought the combat was fine overall but it does start to show its limitations more as you get into the final third of the game where enemies are more frequent and stronger. You basically have one faster but weaker strike, and one slower but stronger strike. You also have dodge so it's all about dodging enemy hits, get an opening and strike back. I ended up using the heavy strike a lot, but it also leaves you vulnerable to attacks back. Depending on which enemy you face it might be smart to utilize both as some enemies have short windows for being defenseless than others.

Durability is also a thing so your weapons only have X amount of uses before they break. The solution to this is two-folded. You can find toolkits that lets you repair your weapons but you can also just find new weapons as you play, meaning if you break a pipe you can find another one and just replace it. There's only melee weapons in here so your pipe, axe, sledgehammer, knife and so on.

In terms of how action heavy the game is I would say a fair bit and it definitely ramps up as it goes along. Ignoring certain enemies (or running from them) is totally valid and if you're somewhere you might not return to anyways it's totally fair to ignore certain enemies to preserve your weapons condition. Similar to all these horror games you kinda get a sense for when things slow down a bit to let you breathe. Certain areas the "mood" of the game will kinda tell you if you should expect combat or not.

Overall I'm pretty happy with this game and would probably give it like 8/10 or something like that. I'll get into some nit picks and overall thoughts on story/characters/lore later, and I do think seeing some of the other endings might help. It did not quite hit me like the Silent Hill 2 remake did, but I also didn't expect it to. This was still very enjoyable to me.

Well...the first 2 hours was so much fun!
The atmosphere is amazing and the action elements are also strong!
The Showa-era rural town is so well-crafted that just walking around is fun and scary! It's rare to find a Japanese-style horror game of this quality, so I personally feel it exceeded my expectations so far 😊
