Apparently they are declaring Chapter 11. Parks will still be open, but it would suck if they shut down. I make it a habit to go to Fright Fest every year.

That's what they get for renaming my favorite childhood marine park.

It was called Marine World when I was a kid. Then it was bought by Six Flags and renamed Six Flags Marine World. That was cool, because everybody I know still called it Marine World.

Bastards renamed it Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

The full name was too long. Besides, I hardly ever went to see the land animals. Get me splashed by a sea mammal or shove me into the Shark Experience, and I'll be satisfied.


I miss Scion Night. They did that a few years in a row not too long ago. You got into the park for free if you came in driving a Scion or had proof of test driving one recently. I had two friends who owned Scions, and they drove the whole lot of us down there. It was glorious. Shorter lines, I almost sexually harassed a member of Danity Kane, a car show...

I'd like to know how they were able to run up over $2B in debts to creditors. That's nuts. It's not like they are paying their employees huge salaries. Somebody needs to go over their books with a fine tooth comb.

I do have one near me but I don't go often. Granted this was before the market crash, but it was always jammed and I had to wait too long in line.

well i live in Dallas, the first ever Six Flags and i know for sure if they are closing down some of the parks its not going to be here

I hope Cedar Point doesn't file too, I have plans to go there in August. I imagine all the parks are hurting.

I'm not surprised at all... People can get cheaper entertainment without making trips to amusement parks.

I agree. Something's up. How does one of the biggest amusement park franchises gain that kind of debt? I bet this has been going on long before the recession.

It's because 10 years ago Six Flags just started buying up other parks and putting their name on it thinking their name alone and one new ride in these parks will turn a profit. The plan backfired, they found themselves in dept, and sold off most of their parks. This has been going on for years, it's just finally reaching the end.

I'm not surprised at all... People can get cheaper entertainment without making trips to amusement parks.

The park puts on damned good shows. Especially the one in D.C. Last year, it ranked #2 (and #1 at one point) for entertainment throughout every park Six Flags owns. Nothing is going to happen to them regardless. They've got plenty of financial backing.
